I saw this clip recently and it scared the #@$* out of me. Is it any wonder Atheism is gaining so much popularity?

No, fanaticism incites hate crimes.

No, it doesn't.

How can Christianity, for instance, incite hate when one of its central messages is "Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you"?

I think you're confusing religion itself with the misuse of it by certain people for selfish or overzealous ends.

Before I became a seriously practicing Catholic four years ago, I had a much more negative view of people. I didn't really like most people, to be honest.

But now, I'm entirely different. There is literally no one who I don't like, who I don't get along with and look on with respect, and even love.

Hate isn't incited by religion. It's incited, if anything, by an absence of it.

The practice of a religion based on mans pleasure will inspire hate if only because mankind is not created equally. That many religions today are focused on the individual gains does create situations where hate is the only alternative. Hate of others, is the mainstay of Nationalism and tribes. "If you cannot prove that we are related then I hate you?" such a simplistic view of the world inspires little thought, and perhaps thats what is the goal?

I do not know what clip you saw, but we should be scared of no one, God controls everything, so if we are scared, We should only fear God, because God is the only one who gave us Jesus so that we may be saved, and when we are with God we are safe from all evil, we can be tempted or tormented by others, but in the end we will go to a kingdom where there is no more evil.
This is why these other religions are what they are false, because its all scare tactics to sway people away from the Lord, and who creates doubt, who wants us to fail, who wants us to turn away from the Lord and not be saved, satan.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a monkey, though i would love to have prehensile tail.

Some religions have parts that negate other religions and claim that the believers of said religions are this and that, however if you ignore all the edits made over the years to religious texts, there are no fundamental reliious beliefs that incite hatred. it is all a matter of how you choose to interpret it.

But, if you're an athiest like myself, you respect people on their own personal merits and don't base your decisions or your oppinions of others on anything other than their/your own personal values which you take responsibility for. but hey, to each her/his own...

All you need to do is watch that video in order to have an answer to your question. There was a time when religion was necessary. We would not be here today without it. That time, however, is now past. Religion today seems to have very little to do with spiritual matters and much to do with dogma, exclusivity and hate mongering. We need to connect with our own souls again. Organized religion is counter to that end. Organized religion is run by HUMANS, mostly men, who are deeply corrupt and care little for anything except their own power, perverse concerns and wealth. I think that is why religion has so much influence in government these days, they are both run by the same kind of heartless, corrupt, elitist, soul dead monsters.
I have a question in return...What is it, do you think, that is so hard to understand in "Thou shalt not kill"? I don't think there is an "except for" in that commandment...Is there?

Im not able to watch the clip but it is used for hate and war, especially in the past with the catholic church. Seems islam is the culprit now for the manslaughter and hate with a religion. If it offends people to share my faith with them then they will have to be offended cause im commanded to share the gospel with every creature.

Yes, definitely. While the Westboro Church is an extreme example, the largest religions are based on fear anyways, which end up leading to hate. The Bible is badly written so it can be interpreted in many different ways, both good and bad. Everyone sees their view as good because they think it's the word of god though, everyone thinks god is on their side.

Religion does not incite hate. Intolerance and ignorance incite hate which this lady is obviously full of.

The answer you seek is in our history. From what I have seen and read, most armed conflicts in our history were because of religious differences.
I think you wills see that is true of most (not all) wars. One faith against the other. Heck, is the Iraq war any different??
Believe in God, any God, but don't believe in religion.

Some religions might but many do not. Unitarian Universalism and many others pursue peace. Don't judge all religion by one example.
