Hi from one church musician to another! Our church VBS is small, about 10-12 kiddies each year. Last year we brought our diaper-wearing 2 1/2 year old to VBS. I'm the organist there so we kinda know everyone, including names and addresses of the teachers :-D

A toddler would be too young to appreciate VBS; I have a two year old who, although she is a sweet and bright child, would be a handful. I wouldn't even take her to VBS if I planned on being there, because I would be exhausted at the end of the day from chasing her. At my own house, she knows her limits, and most everything that she could come into contact with is safe. At someone else's house, you never know what safety measures they have taken (fences, gates, baby locks, no dog poop in the yard). The possibilities are endless, and if you aren't there, you are forcing the VBS worker(s) to care for your little one, when their primary goal is teaching. Unless your child is pretty much guaranteed to sit still and pay attention for the entire duration, I would say no.

No. A toddler is way too young. If the class is geared towards young toddlers and is almost like a day care, then I maybe. But it's with just one person looking over toddlers for sole purpose of teaching the bible, then I would hesitate.

Well this is a very touchie subject not because of what going on in church now a days but whats going on in the world today. I'm very protective of my son and it's hard to say because it's hard for me to trust anyone other than my mother with my children. I would say no depending on age wise and their maturity level. I've always taught my kids about different subjects and I want them to come to me about anything. Alot can happen when your not around but we're not always going to be there either. If you can honestly trust others that YOU KNOW with your kids then it's okay but a mother instincts are always right about a person. I'm sure what ever decsion u make will be the right one..

I just spent a week at Bible School with my 3 year old, teaching the 3's. She was DONE at the end of the second day and spent much time in the stroller the rest of the week :(. It was too much for her. Once they hit 4 or 5, I think they are more ready for that kind of activity.

Yes. I sent my 2 year old to VBS this year. I knew her teachers and trusted the church. I also visited her class. There were 14 kids in her class of older 2's and 3's and 10 or so in the younger 2's class. She had a blast!

Would depend on the staffing and age range of children per group. I would not be comfortable if the ages were too mixed. Maybe if the children were grouped into 3-4 year olds and 5-6 year olds.

I would allow my toddler to attend vacation bible school only if you are able to be there. You can help out in the class or maybe in another capacity. Just in case the child is not ready to be separated from you.

Yes. They get to play with other children their own age and do activities that are geared toward their age. As long as a contact number is left in case of problems, I think it's a wonderful opportunity for the child to play with his/her peers and gives mom a much needed break while her child is a safe environment.

it would depend on what she'd be doing and what kind of supervision there is....

as long as she will be under constant supervision and their activities aren't dangerous, or even potentially dangerous, then i wouldn't see a problem.

however, just by asking this question makes me think your mommy radar is going off...if that's the case, then do some activities on your own at home and pass on the actual bible school if you can't be there.
i'm sure there are lots of ideas on various websites for you and your daughter to do together in the vein on bible school.

take care.
