Ok I have recently received a letter in the mail stating that i have won 55,000 for the international lottery and if i dont claim it by the 10th of july then it will go to charity. I called and they said i have to pay a fee before they release the money however they said they are taking the fee out of my winning so i dont have to pay anything out of my own pocket not i was waiting for the fee money to come in the mail and i havent received anything yet. Waht do i do about this and is it a scam or real deal?

This type of scam has been going round and round for years with a few variations. Most of the time they'll send you a check or money order, ask you to deposit it and wire their fees back. Then you find out that the check, money order or whatever is counterfeit, forged or whatever. The old saying "if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is" really comes into play here. Oh and as far as I'm aware there is no international lottery.

Did you enter a lottery? You don't just get money offered to you without entering. What you're describing sounds like what's been happening to my 88 year old mother-in-law. She gets calls from supposed lotteries telling her she's won, but she needs to pay a shipping/handling/etc. fee to get it to her. She trusts everyone except us when we try to tell her it's a scam which began in Nigeria, but is now traveling all over the world. I've checked with our state's attorney general, and it's a scam, all right. No legitimate lottery requires you to pay anything to get the money.

sounds very scammy..... do nothing and give them nothing especially personal information. If a suitcase with $50K shows up at your door have a ball but don't count on it.
