Are all christians mentally deficient, or just the really vocal ones?

I'm sorry, I see I have offended some people. What I meant to say was are all christians extremely annoying, or just the really vocal ones? Never mind, I think most of you already answered that one...

I didn't mean to insult your fantasy religion, only to make fun of it...no I meant to insult it.

This question, or variants of it, get asked about once a week here. Why is that? Why can't civilized people debate honestly, without resorting to ad hominem attacks on their adversary? Is it so that you can feel good about yourself that "you" must be intelligent, because, after all, "they" aren't.

I know of many here who are quite sane, have wonderful educational backgrounds, and are here to answer the honest seeker.

Unfortunately, when we do this, we have to wade through a lot of filthy rhetoric to do so. Sometimes, after spending a few minutes looking at questions, and then answering them, I feel like I need a shower just to get "Yahoo" off of me. Oy vey!

Anyway, you can recognize the difference between an honest seeker, and someone who's just picking a fight, by the nature of their question. Ones like "Are all Christians mentally deficient, or just the really vocal ones?" are just picking a fight.

Of course not. But think about it. The people who are most vocal/active for their preferred cause(s) are the ones with time on their hands. They may not be mentally deficient, they may just need to figure out a more productive way to spend their time!

Hear me out... I'm with you on this. You don't need to bash them cuz then you are at their level. They (particularly the really vocal ones) are just not very respectful... maybe they are victims of the church... if you've ever been in one... well, they brainwash people to go out and SPREAD the WORD. They don't think that what THEY do is wrong but they think every thing WE do is wrong and that we should change. They call us heathens and disgusting sinners and then they ask us to JOIN THEM. They don't see how completely f***ed up that is. They also don't understand that they are practicing ways that go against the teachings of Jesus. Jesus would not approve of Christians today. Christians have no chance at changing me and I have no chance at changing them... so I'm just gonna do my thing and when they are rude to me... well then maybe I'll be rude back, but I won't be rude just cuz I think they are stupid... Yes, I do think they are stupid. But, I mean, I won't be rude just cuz I disapprove of their ways... cuz then I'm no better than they are.

No, not all of them. I'm a Christian and I got a 3.6 GPA and I'm going to a very academically rigorous college next fall. I'm quite vocal about my faith, but I wouldn't say I'm mentally deficient.

Hey, how about showing a little tolerance?

In the space of ten minutes, I've read messages from non-Christians calling Christians "delusional," "ignorant," "stupid," and now "mentally deficient."

Your side can't win arguments on the merits, so mud-slinging and name-calling become your "debate tactics." That speaks volumes.
