I say "come" and he just ignores me. Whenever my dad says that to him it usually means he's in trouble. I tried to train him yesterday but he got distracted with another dog. I want him to know that "come" is a good thing because I'm afraid one day he will run out in the street and when i say "come" he won't listen & get hit by a car.

Treats are the only thing that will attract a dog. First thing to do is to is to put him on a leash. Hold the leash and then say "come". If he doesn't listen and go and do something else, gently pull on the leash and hold out the treat. That will show him not to be afraid of you. When he does come give him the treat and pat him on the head and then tell him he is a good boy. That will praise him. Only do this when you are alone. He will get distracted if anyone is there. Keep on doing this until he will start listening. When he starts listening, praise him with 2 treats. Continue for 2 more days of training then at the end, give him a big juicy bone. Hope my advice help!

Well, the first thing is: never call the dog to you (or let your dad call the dog to him) just to punish him. Go to the dog to punish him when he does something wrong. If the dog thinks that "come" means "you're in trouble" you'll NEVER get him to come to you.

Get your dog on a leash, in your living room or kitchen or other quiet place. Not outside, because he'll just get distracted and he's not ready for that yet. Tell your dog to sit, walk to the end of the leash, squat down so you're his size, and say "come!" in a firm voice. If the dog doesn't come, don't say it again, because then the dog will learn that he doesn't have to listen to you the first time you say anything. Just pull him on his leash towards you, and when he gets to you, praise him excitedly and pet him. If you want, you could have a little bit of treat to give him. This will keep him interested at the beginning. Then, tell him to sit, walk to the end of the leash, and do it again. After a few weeks, when the dog is better at coming, put him on the end of a long rope and do the same thing. When he's good at that, try it without any lead inside. When he's good at THAT, try it with a short leash again outside, (he'll be distracted by being outside and will act like he has no idea what you're taking about, but he does) then a long lead outside, and if you feel really good about it, without any leash outside, but in a park and not near traffic.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Your dog doesn't listen to you because you haven't shown good leadership and made it worth his while. Most dogs will listen if they're not distracted and they want to - it takes lots of practice for the dog to do what you want when you want it.

Take him to dog obedience classes or read some good books. Many AKC recognized dog training clubs all over the country have advanced classes where the dogs are well behaved. The trainers generally have more knowledge and you pay less.

These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com - I recommend them to all of my clients.

First, you must make sure your dog knows you are in control. Also, it takes more than one day to train your dog. Put your dog on a leash and while walking say your dogs name along with come. Train your dog to sit, stay then come. Once you train your dog to sit and stay walk away from your dog turn around and say name, then come. You can gradually teach your dog sign language along with calling him.

Dogs aren't that smart. They don't understand the concept of English. Every time you say come he thinks hes going to get scolded. So try to tell him that you mean no harm and your Dad needs to figure out another way to scold him.

Treats, treats, and, oh yeah, more treats. First start with your dog on a leash calling him, and when he doesn't come, kind've make him come, and give him a treat and lots of praise. As he gets to where he can do it on the leash, keep him on the leash, but no longer hold the leash in your hand. Make sure that he realizes that "come" is a good thing, and that he doesn't get in trouble when he does come to you.
