I do daycare for my family quite often and I normally charged them $100 a week for the first and and extra $50 a week for any more than that. I should say that most of my siblings only have 2 kids. They all told me I was the cheapest so I'm assuming depending on where you live, you'll be lucky to find someone who's good and loving for that price. Some people charge more for infants, I always charged extra if they're toddlers. Potty training's harder than changing a diaper for me. Keep in mind that some charge by the hour, I had a set rate so if they had to work overtime they didn't have to pay more. and if they had an odd day off and wanted to go out with friends they could do that also.

I would tend to think that a lot depends on where you live, the age of the sitter and how much experience she/he comes with as well as, if they have first aid/ cpr training. Having been a babysitter with babysitter training and first aid (1982-1990) I was paid 5-8 dollars an hour. As a teacher now, if asked to sit, I would not hesitate to charge at least $10 an hour. If there were more than one child though, I might say $1-$2 per extra child...especially if the ages were spaced far apart. As for getting paid that, it sounds high but I also come prepared with a variety of activities, excellent references, and have experience.
One piece of advice,is if you hire someone who is 13 or so, invite them over and have her/him watch your infant while you stay home doing chores away from the baby. Keep the baby monitor on and allow that person to babysit. This way you will get a feel of the situation. Of course you will be expected to pay her/him for the time.

Call your local community collge childcare dept or your local HS childcare dept. They can also help with a list of names of thier students. The rate in the Chicago 'burbs is around $5 - 6 per hr.

it all depends on your area and if you are using a teen or an adult.
adults tend to charge more b/c they are more aware of their worth as a sitter.
i know friends who get sitters for between $5-$10 per hour. the most expensive one was a woman who works at the kid's daycare. the least expensive was a girl who washed hair at the mom's hair salon.
i was their cheapest ever b/c i didn't charge anything...that's what friends are for:)
so, anywhere between 5-10 per hour is reasonable.

If you want someone with experience and knowledge expect to pay around $10-$15 an hour for a child that age.
