How do I fill a watermelon with vodka?

Question

I've never tried but heard a vodka filled watermelon can be a delicious (and intoxicating) summer party treat. Having some friends over this weekend and wanted to toss one together. Do I have to drain the melon first? How do I keep it cold? How long does it take? What other liquors can I use? Is it honestly as easy as jam a bottle in the bastard and ta da? Im lost! Somebody help

First, find the way that the watermelon sits the most stable. There should always be a flat side where it was sitting on the ground. Put that side down.

Then cut a hole CENTERED in the top just big enough to fit the neck of the bottle you're going to use. Turn the watermelon sideways and stick the neck of the bottle tightly into the hole. (If you don't want to lose any booze, you can try to lift the watermelon on top of the bottle, but this is a risky operation. I strongly recommend just sacrificing a few teaspoons of the vodka.)

Turn the melon back upright and the vodka will slowly drain into the melon. You'll see little air bubbles float into the vodka bottle.

This does take time! Allow at least 24 hours of soaking time. And, be careful how much vodka you put into the melon or all you'll taste is booze. I put about 1/4 of a fifth into an average sized melon.

You can also sit the melon upside down first and allow some of the moisture to leak out, but I think it doesn't taste as good that way, and the leaking process is very messy. You know how sticky watermelon juice is!

Just keep the watermelon in the fridge or in a cooler (if you don't have the room). Don't slice it up until you're ready to serve it.

Any fruit schnapps is good in place of vodka. I've always wanted to try the raspberry vodka with the watermelon. It sounds good, but I haven't tried it.

Take the watermelon and pit in something that allows it to stand upright. Cut a hole in the top big enough to pour into. Place in fridge until needed...the longer the better. You can use anything you like... vanilla vodka and coconut rum are good.

Its as easy as pouring the vodka into the melon. Try and make a small hole and funnel the vodka in. Best if done early that morning or the night before so it has time to soak in.

Cut a hole big enough to reach inside and hollow it out. Be careful to be able to place cut back on top. Pour in Melon vodka or cherry vodka. Freeze. Enjoy.

DO NOT hollow out the melon. Cut a hole, keep the plug you cut out of it, and prop it up where the juice can drain out for several hours. Then, when no more juice comes out, replace the lost juice with vodka. Plug the hole with the piece of rind you saved and refrigerate where the vodka can't leak out of the melon. Then slice and enjoy just as you would a regular melon.

Just make a little hole not to big just wide enough so you can pour it in but don't throw the piece away so that you can cover it again so it can all mix good together
