Mainly because a death warrant is often good for just one day. According to the California Department of Corrections, if the execution is not carried out during that 24-hour period, the state must re-petition the court for another death warrant. Scheduling the execution for 12:01 a.m. gives the state as much time as possible to deal with last-minute legal appeals and temporary stays, which have a way of eating up time.

Ok, several things. The electric chair, which is not used very much any more, does NOT use the public's electricity, and the lights DO NOT dim. That's Hollywood. The prison has it's own generators just for that purpose. Also, all states don't always execute at midnight. Georgia usually executes at 8 PM.

Largely it is based under the assumption that less people will want to crowd around the prison either to cheer on the death or to protest it. The fewer people gathered, the less money spent on extra security. The electricity theory does not hold up because not all states use electricity. NH still uses hanging. Utah uses the firing squad, and many states use lethal injection.

Because they want to get it done as soon as possible on the scheduled day so that there is no time for appeals or pardon's or anything of the such. Midnight is the beginning of the day.

Probably because of all the electricity it takes. At midnight, little electricity is being used.

So the government doesn't have to spend one more penny supporting the person (food, lodging, etc) than legally obligated to.

they are usuallyscheduled for 12;01 they inmate is givin an execution date and this is the soonest the state can kill him......they should line em up and let em diffuse bobms in iraq for our soldiers......
