Be kind but firm. Tell him that you're not attracted to him in that capacity - it is nothing about him per se', but you just don't feel that *spark* with him.
Anything less than being firm, and he will see it as an opening and that although you may not want him now, you'll want him later. ..yes.. unfortunately us boys are that stupid.

you sound confused...well.. since you have put up this question in Yahoo! answers, im assuming that you dont want to hurt the guy.. may be you want to have him as a friend too...
now. to answer your question, be courteous. say hi/ hello when you meet. dont be rude. if he calls you often, make up some excuse to hang up. if you continue doing that he will understand that you are not interested. if he says it straight.. plz remain unaffected and tell him that you are not ready to start a relationship now. dont try to give him consolations over long telephone hours... or meet him to lend him a shoulder to cry on.. it will not work.
you cannot have him as a friend right now.. im telling you this from personal experience. no matter how nice you behave, how friendly you try to remain.. he will ALWAYS translate it to a positive signal... give him some time.. may be after a year or two when he knows that you didnt play around with him, he might end up being a good friend.
dont start a relationship out of pity... it becomes awful later on...
love someone when you know he is the one..ask anyone... wrong relationships will make you suffer beyond imagination.. its just not worth it.

First of all, I'd tell him that you're not interested in him like that but you'd love to be a friend, always try and be nice when turning someone down, you don't wanna hurt his feelings to where he may stop talking to you, or may hurt himself. Depending on how the person is, just be nice as you tell him how you feel.

No, don't tell him. Lead him on by flirting for months, build up all of his hope until he is bursting at the seams with it. Then, agree to meet him somewhere for a "date". Make sure it is a place where lots of your classmates will be. When he arrives, totally humiliate him in front of everyone. That way, by his example, you'll let everyone know what happens to inferior men who dare approach your magnificence.

Tell him that you really do not like him, but do it in a nice way. It makes no use to keep stretching out this thing. Tell him and be done with it. The sooner the better my dear.

I find the best way is to just tell the person and then you do not have to worry about if they are going to keep asking question about maybe this or maybe if we do that because you was tiring to let hem down so easy you, just say it

Yea, don't be rude, you wouldn't want someone to do that to you. Just be nice and tell him straight out. I am sorry but I do not like you in that way. If you were friends before tell him that you don't want this to affect your friendship. Don't burn your bridges sweetie, one day you might like this guy. You never know, we change as we get older and wiser

Well I have had this problem before and I went up to him and told him "I know you like me and everything but it just wouldn't work out. See I don't like you the same way. But we can be friends if you want." A nd he said yes he wanted to be my friend. If you don't won't to be friends then just tell him you don't like him how he likes you.

Be honest but not mean. Tell him that youre flattered that he likes you but that youre not intrested in him that way. Maybe he'll get the hint. If not then get mean. Hopefully you wont have to resort to those measures.
