Drink clear alcohol. Dark alcohol tends to contain a substance called cogeners. These types of alcohols are more likely to cause hangover symptoms. White wine, vodkas, light rum are examples of clear alcohols. Red wine, dark rum, sherry, brandy are high in cogeners. Beer is in between, mostly depending on how dark it is. This difference has no effect on how drunk a woman can get, only the liklihood and severity of hang-overs.

The food thing. Everyone knows this already. Eat something before and during alcohol consumption. This slows the absorption of alcohol. Fats and carbohydrates are best for slowing absorption. Sugars intake prevents hang-overs. Cakes and pastries are the party food that has lots of all three.

Water, water and more water. Alcohol is a diuretic; it dehydrates our cells, causing us to feel tired, headachy and generally out of sorts. The sooner you can start replenishing your supply of H20, the faster you'll start to feel healthy again. Dehydration is a big part of hang-overs. Combat it while you are drinking. Make sure to drink water between drinks - do it as often as possible.

Hangover pills. There are two types of hangover prevention products on the market. The first is the one that is taken before you go to bed. It has some effective results in prevention, but will not stop a hangover in its entirety. The second method is to take pills with your first drink and every three hours of drinking thereafter. This will prevent your body from processing the chemicals that cause your hangover.

One drink per hour. Don't rush it while drinking. The liver is loaded with the task to remove the excess toxins from the consumed alcohol. It takes the liver about an hour to process one standard drink. So spreading out the drinking over the course on an evning will lessen the likelyhood of a hangover.

Women. Don't keep up with the boys. Women do not have the tolerance for alcohol that men do, even when they are the same size. For men the standard is two drinks per evening. For women a better limit should be one drink for smaller women (less than 120 lbs.) and one and a half for all others. A drink is defined as one mixed drink, 4 oz of wine, or 12 oz of beer. A "half drink" is a light beer, or a wine cooler.

Mix in water. If you are going to drink, choose drinks that are mixed with water to reduce the hangover; e.g. scotch & water or whiskey & water. You can add lime or lemon to improve the taste. Also, it is easier and less notable to alternate your drinks throughout with straight water or change to straight water when you feel that you have had enough and you're not ready to stop.

You can avoid a hangover by drinking water, eating a little food before you go to bed. Like a small bowl of ramen noodles, or mac and cheese or a small order of french fries. Don't pass out drunk. Walk it off. Get some food in you. If you are somewhat sober by the time you fall asleep you won't feel like crap the next day. Water is your best friend, so drink up. The only thing better for you than water would be MINERAL water. That ant-hangover pill you see advertised on TV is just charcoal.

Eat before you go out or drink with a meal. Drink a clear spirit with a sugary mixer - like vodka and cranberry or J2O and don't deviate, stay on it the WHOLE night. So choose a drink you know you'll be able to have at every stage of the evening - even drinking different brands of gin can screw up my method!! If you're drinking wine or beer stick religiously to the same one - so don't have one glass of chardonnay and then a class of chablis. Drink lots and lots of water whilst you are drinking. Have some Andrews liver salts before you go to bed. In the morning, drink a can (or as much as you can get down you) of full-fat Coke (nothing artificially sweetened) that's gone flat and eat a Mars bar if you can. Take more Andrews liver salts. Drink as much water as you possibly can and take painkillers. I tried RU 21 and they didn't work for me (and cost loads from Superdrug). I've been following these rules for a while now and although, on occasion, I've drunk huge amounts, I haven't had an all day/all night hangover for a few years now.

Yes, I've worked in nutrition for almost 10 years and I can tell you that a hangover is caused from both dehydration, as well as a depletion of B vitamins and minerals in your brain. I always drink a packet of Emergen-C (available at Whole Foods, GNC, etc.), as it will hydrate and stock your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs while consuming alcohol. It works like a charm! Also, I know dozens of people who swear by a supplement called, "No More Hangovers." It comes in a bottle or you may also purchase a packet containing 1 serving, just to try it out. I've never tried it (Emergen-C works too well for me) but it might be worth a shot.

Hangovers are due in large part to dehydration. Some time before calling it a night, put down the alcohol and drink plenty of water.

I have found that if you drink a glass of water for every drink that you have and then take aspirins or some type of pain killer before you go to bed you will increase your chances of having a normal day, the following morning.

And never drink on an empty stomach. I like to eat something after I get a buzz.

here is the deal. when you are done pounding the drinks back... and before you pass out. drink a water until you cannot drink anymore. then take some vitamins. like a cent-rum complete... a B12 for energy and like 3 vitamin C. and if your feeling exotic an aspirin or ibuprofen too. it works like a charm... if the the next day you wake up and ur feeling drunk still. eat some greasy food like a hot sausage or Vincents pizza( pittsburghers know) and drink some COKE yeah.. not the diet but the all sugary rot your teeth kind.. normally works. cheers!

Before you go out make sure you've had something to eat. When yu get back that night, drink a pint of warm water with lemon juice in it. Do the same when you wake up and you should be hangover free! :-)

Eat something before you go out drinking. Something fatty to soak up the alcohol. Drink lots of water during the night to stay hydrated. And stop letting all the boys talk you into doing shots all night long.
