Bible does not go into further detail.

What a woman, so scorned that she would want to see a servered head, and it was not a birhtday gift.

The daughter of this woman , so pleased the king , that he offered her anything that she pleased, up to half his kingdom (she must have been very good dancer)
She did not know what to ask for, so she consulted her mother, who told her to ask for the head of John the baptist on a platter.

She wanted him dead , because she had been having an affair with the King(her brother in law) and the king listened to John the baptists advice that it was wrong to dishonor his brother in this manner.
THe kind stopped the affair, and the lady was very angry about it, hence the revengeful motive of wanting to see him dead

For previously Herod had arrested John and had him bound and put in prison (believed to be the fortress of Machaerus in Perea), all on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip (not Philip the tetrarch of Iturea and Trachonitis). For John had said to him, "It is not right for you to have this woman." Herod wanted to kill him for this, but he was afraid of the people, since they all thought John was a prophet. But during Herod's birthday celebrations Herodias' daughter (Salome, daughter of Philip and Herodias) delighted him by dancing before his guests, so much so that he swore to giver her anything she liked to ask. And she, prompted by her mother, said, "I want you to give me, here and now, on a dish, the head of John the Baptist!" Herod was aghast at this, but because he had sworn in front of his guests, he gave orders that she should be given what she had asked. So he sent men and had John beheaded in the prison. Then his head was carried in on a dish and presented to the young girl who handed it to her mother.

Later John's disciples came, took his body and buried it. Then they went and told the news to Jesus

It doesn't say nothing more about his head, but I believe that it was trashed or given to the dogs. Probably the queen kept it hanging for a while so everyone could see from far. (That's actually my opinion) It's not a fact. But many things could had have happend. But for sure it was not burried together with the body.

I believe that, once John's body was released, his head was returned along with his body. Herod liked John, when he was still alive. However, Herodias(Herod's adulterous lover) did not, because John condemned the affair between Herod & Heordias. It's peculiar, how one person reacts to the truth & how one handles the truth. John knew he was going to die because he was paving the way for Jesus. Although, once Jesus died, on the cross, He went to get John & many others, from Hades & took them home, to heaven.

I remember his head was cut off because the king promised his sons wife anything for her wedding, she asked her mother and her mother said the head of john the baptist on a platter..So of course the king had it cut off and given to her on a platter.

John the Baptist, or prophet Yahya in Arabic/Islam is buried and enshrined in a mosque in the state of Egypt. Just as many Biblical prophets are buried throughout the Middle East, e.g. prophet David (Daoud in Arabic/Islam) is buried in the state of Iraq.

The Romans probably placed it on a Pike and displayed it till it rotted as a message to those who followed his teachings. Good propaganda or so they thought.

I think it's creepy to see a decapitated head. I would've lost my appetite. Especially if you was eating meat for dinner.
