I just purchased a Sony DSC-W50. Does the memory stick have to be from Sony or can it be from Sandisk, etc?

I was looking into getting a 1GB or 2GB Memory Pro DUO stick but I wanted to know if: 1) another brand would even work? 2) if it does work, would it work at the same level as the Sony brand?

Any brand labeled Memory Stick Pro Duo has to meet the performance and size standards set by Sony.

However, it is best to stick with known brands, which are more likely to have better quality control.

Within the Pro Duo standards, there are multiple speeds defined. So while all will work, the ones labeled High Speed might give slightly faster performance, depending on your camera. These are only worth the extra money if you plan to shoot pics very quickly (and your camera is capable of shooting faster).
