Its the same as women in a supermarket queue who are surprised when the checkout operator asks them to pay. They have waited 10 Min's to get to the front then start to look thru bags and purses to find their credit card. Then everyone has to wait while they put it away again. They are just selfish people.

I know! same thing in the grocery line, there's only two checkers, the line is reaching down the isle, and they wait till their groceries are totaled before they even take thier checkbook out! they could have already had everything filled out, except the amount, but NOOO! they have to make everyone wait even longer! That really burns my toast! People are so unaware of their surroundings, they cant see other people are waiting, too!

Probably for security reasons. They might not feel comfortable exposing their wallet, credit cards, and cash when standing in a group of people and prefer to be closer to the security camera when they do so. However, they could try and make the card more easily accessable while in line.

Beause I wouldn't want to be standing there for 10 mins waiving my ATM card around for some guy to run by and snatch

i don't know why...
but they're the same people who get to the front of the queue at McDonalds, the pub etc and only THEN do they start to think about what they want to order...

For security reasons, Ben. It's not a smart idea to have your card easily available for someone to snatch. That sounds far-fetched, but it does happen. Just like anything else you value, you should keep it tucked away until you need it.

It's probably due to amount of crime with ATM cards, either being stolen while you have it in your hand or someone viewing the card numbers

It is really annoying, but maybe they think that no one will try to take their card from them if they don't have it visible in their hand. Which is really stupid because we all know that you wouldn't be standing in the stupid line if you didn't have a card!

Don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to stand there with my card in my hand (or my wallet out, either) where someone can just whip by and *snatch* it from me!! Sorry, after 10 minutes, another 10 seconds won't kill you, will it? :-)
