By peppers do you mean fresh peppercorn?? If so, there are several ways to do it. You can use a mortar and pestal to crack it. Or if you don't have that, you can put some in a plastic baggie and smash them with a hammer or meat tenderizer on the flat side. But the easiest way, is to buy a pepper mill.

I like to use a meat mallet to crack mine, it is a good idea to put peppercorns in a towel and fold it over the peppercorns, i do his on my maple cuttingboard. Hit it a dozen times and you have fresh cracked pepper! Cracked pepper is excellent on strip steaks, prepared Aupoivre style. Take the steak, crack the peppercorns, roll the steak in it, over medium heat, add olive oil to frying pan, cook steak until browned, flip it, repeat, remove from stove, add 1 Tbsp. of brandy and flame it up! finish with a few Tbsp. of heavy cream to make the sauce, serve medium rare is best. I bought my meat mallet, cuttingboard and peppercorns from http://www.chefdepot.com

like black peppercorns? Put the peppercorns in a ziploc bag and get most of the air out. Take an iron skillet and smash it.

if you mean black peppercorns, place the peppercorns on a chopping board and put a chef's knife or chinese cleaver on its side and place your palm on top of the knife and peppercorns and roll back and forth adding pressure/force with your palm until you get the size of cracked pepper you want.
