After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent around 40 days with His apostles, and around 500 other disciples, teaching them. Here's a quote from Acts 1:3-9: "After he had suffered, he had shown himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them through a period of forty days and telling them about the kingdom of God. While he was meeting with them, he ordered them, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the Father's promise, about which you heard me speak. For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Now those who had come together began to ask him, "Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?" He answered them, "It is not for you to know what times or periods the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." After saying this, he was taken up while they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight."
So, Jesus ascended into Heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father, and will return for His Church, His bride, and then will judge the earth of all its wickedness. He will then rule and reign.
UPDATE: As far as when did Jesus die, He died on a Roman cross three days prior. You can see that story in the Gospels, right toward the end of each. To summarize the story, though, I will quote from I Corinthians 15:3-8 "For I passed on to you the most important points of what I received: Christ died for our sins in keeping with the Scriptures, he was buried, he was raised on the third day in keeping with the Scriptures-and is still alive!- and he was seen by Cephas, and then by the twelve. After that, he was seen by more than 500 brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Next he was seen by James, then by all the apostles, and finally he was seen by me, as though I were born abnormally late."
Now, He didn't die again, He lives forever. Romans 6:9, "for we know that Christ, who was raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has mastery over him."
As far as where he went for those three days, He went to what is called Hades (Greek: abode of the dead) where He preached to the dead, "For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, an innocent person for the guilty, so that he could bring you to God. He was put to death in the sphere of the flesh but was made alive in the sphere of the spirit, in which he went and made a proclamation to those imprisoned spirits who disobeyed long ago in the days of Noah, when God waited patiently while the ark was being built. In it a few, that is, eight persons, were saved by water." (I Peter 3:18-20)
And about everyone being forgiven of their sins: Not everyone has been forgiven. It is only through receiving Christ into your life and turning away from the sins that you enjoy, that you are saved from judgment. Sins that occur after this are forgiven through confession to Christ (I John 1:9). So yes, technically there are those who have murdered, who will be in Heaven. But they are no longer the person that committed the crime. they have been born anew. I hope that helps. In the meantime, I would recommend that you find a Bible teaching church, who will disciple you. You may also purchase discipleship books that can help you learn these doctrines. I will provide links in the source section of a couple that come to mind.

When Jesus died on the cross He went to what is called the spirit world. All the people who have ever died, and have not been ressurrected or translated, await the resurrection in the spirit world.
In the spirit world, then, were all of the ancient prophets who were dead, and Jesus established His church among them, so that the faithful people among the dead could teach those who had not yet benefited from the gospel.
OK, then, when Jesus came back, he was resurrected, and the first mortal person He saw was Mary, and He said touch me not for I have not yet ascended to My Father. At some point between that time, and the time that Jesus appeared to the apostles, He must have ascended to the Father, because He let the apostles touch him.
Then He appeared several times to teach the apostles, and after that was the ascension into heaven that most of these people are talking about.
As far as I know, He didn't appear again until the early 1800's, when He and the Father came to reestablish the true church after the Great Apostasy.
Not incidentally, Christ has a body of flesh and bone, as does the Father. That's part of why we came to earth. We wanted to have bodies to be more like our Father in Heaven.
"A Son of God, like God to be, would not be robbing deity."

Well, the bible does not go into any great detail on what Jesus did while in the grave, but we do know that he went and retrieved the keys to hell, so that he holds the key to heaven and hell now.
It speaks of Jesus visiting soals while in Hell? bible does not call it hell, so just an opinion , but the soals were not saved, so he wasnt in heaven yet.
He did really come back, and for 40 days made his presence well known to his apostles and others.
Jesus really died on the cross at calvary, he arose again on the third day, and ascended into heaven after 40 days.
He left with the promise that he would return for us, and this is what we are now waiting for, as for when, only the father knows.

My guess is that He chilled with His Father for a few days before coming back to life. We know that He did die on the cross because of the spear in His side. The Bible doesn't actually say what He did for 3 days. I've asked my pastor this before and that's what he said (it's not in the Bible). If it is, I'd like to know where.
He really died when He gave His spirit to the Father (Into Your hands I committ my spirit). We know He was dead because when the Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear. Water and blood flowed out and water would only come out when someone's dead. The water forms around the heart after someone dies.

He attended the 3-day 'How Not To Get Killed On A Cross For Dummies' training seminar.
Seriously though, I don't think he actually died on the cross. Its a shame what the early Christians did to the Bible in Constantinople when they formed the early book. Perhaps if they'd listened to Jesus' teachings a bit more and left out their own avarice and misogynist pride we might be a lot better off today and perhaps avoided all this Christian vs. Muslim bullshit.

The gospels all record various events, as do one of Paul's letters.
Too lazy to look it up, but:
- He appeared at the tomb to Mary Magdalene, after she and others had come and found it empty.
- He walked with two disciples to a house in Emmaus, and repeated his last supper blessing in front of them.
- He appeared to the disciples after they had been told to go back to Galilee, the disciples without Thomas.
- Then he appeared to all the disciples including Thomas.
- He visited them on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, after they had been fishing, and had breakfast with them there.
- He spoke to five hundred disciples in (presumably) Jerusalem (this according to St. Paul.)
- Finally, in Jerusalem, he gave them some last instructions and disappeared on a cloud. His glorified body from the ressurection onward was that which was prefigured by the transfiguration; he would not need to die to be in Heaven - he was the bread from Heaven and was now able to visibly ascend to it.
Your additional details are unrelated to your original question, and as such, I have no real comment on them. I've specifically sought to answer the original "where'd he go" inquiry in good faith.

For three days, He was in paradise (Luke 23:43), part of the unseen realm (Luke 16:19-31). He had not yet ascended to the Father in heaven (John 20:17).

He went to Sheol and took shook the kingdom of Satan to the core. Before He even rose from the dead... as soon as He died... hundreds of people rose from the dead having been freed from Sheol... a resting place of the dead... which caused the Roman centurian to exclaim that surely Jesus must be the Son of God.
You can read about it in Matthew 27:50-54.

According to Mormon Cosmology, Jesus went to the Spirit World (where departed souls go to await judgement, a paradise or prison depending on the life lived) to preach the gospel there.
