I find that my cockatiel likes to eat when someone is sitting by him. He chatters away and eats his food and is happy for the company. I cover him at night so he can sleep and in the morning I wait till he calls me to come take the cover off. Im not sure what kind of bird you have but I had the same problems when i first got him - he was abandoned at the pet shop and they gave him to me because they thought he wasn't going to live the night (hes 18 years old). Ive had him almost a year now. I didn't understand him at first either but I was patient and noticed the times when he screeched and what was going on. He will scream if he needs his water changed or his food is low or cage nees cleaning or if hes just plain lonely. If you don't have the patience to deal with this type of behaviour then you really should consider giving him or her to someone with time and patience to deal with it. But if you can handle it it is very rewarding! Good luck!!

i had an amazon blue front.. a large bird .. beautiful and very intelligent .. and loud as hell. it was my moms bird .. but when she passed away i was left to take care of it.
I wanted to keep her .. so i did for a year.. though i didn't know what the hell i was doing.. it was like having a 2 year old in a cage..thats how smart they are.. but i finally decided to sell her...
i thought it would be selfish of me to keep her.. just because i thought she was 'pretty' to have.. i'm glad i did whats best for her.. cuz now shes with someone whos capable of taking care of her.. and the proper way. she was only 4 .. and could live up to the age of 60 .. so.. i dont think i would want a bird who will live longer then me anywayz.. haha
PS ..
YOU SHOULD REALLY ONLY PUT A COVER "BLANKET" OVER HER CAGE AT NIGHT WHEN SHES SLEEPING..
NOT ALL DAY.. IF SHES REALLY THAT BAD .. YOU COULD TRY COVERING HER FOR A LITTLE BIT TO CALM HER DOWN ..
IF U WANT TO KEEP HER.. GO TO BOOKS A MILLION OR BORDERS AND BUY A BOOK ON HER KIND

Usually, you can cover the bird cage with a blanket. The bird will then think it is night time, and will try going to sleep. Be sure to take the cover off when you leave the house. otherwise you'll totally ruin the bird's biological clock, and she will chirp and tweet at random times, not knowing whether it's day or night.

You are the problem, not your bird.Birds scream, shriek, make various noises. It's natural and what they do.You had no business getting a bird without doing research on that particular breed's habits. You need to go out and buy yourself bird care manuals and Bird Talk magazine and READ them and educate yourself.Screaming at the bird rewards it for being noisy. The bird needs to be played with, entertained, distracted. You can even cover her for short periods of time. But YOU really need to educate yourself about the type of bird you have. What are you going to do when your bird hits puberty and starts other behaviors? If you are going to be a responsible, loving, successful owner who can give this bird a happy, healthy, long life, you are going to have to learn about birds.
My birds are very vocal. They are healthy, happy parrots of 25 years of age and 18 years of age;they whistle, shriek, scream, garble, opinionate, fracture the English language, but telling them to shut up would make them more vocal. If one gets to excited,it will get covered for a short period of time, but mostly they are played with and asked to explain themselves. They love to talk to the wild birds, complain about strange cars or people on the street. They are naturally curious.Parrots tend to be very vocal first thing in the morning, midday, and before sunset;IT'S NATURAL BEHAVIOR!!It's what birds normally do.

Your bird isn't stupid, you just don't understand her! birds need darkness and quiet every day. put a cover over her cage after making sure she has plenty of water, food and oh if you are eating, she's going to want a bite of what you have! Been there, had one, won't have another one!

well check her food and water dishes, and if they are full then she might just need some attention from you. And if none of those things work cover her cage with blanket or towel, that will imitate darkness. And darkness causes a bird to sleep. Good Luck!! But if you get sooo sick of it and you don't want it anymore, send it to me. I'm currently looking for a bird.

Talk to her....Or get another bird to keep her company. Maybe she's lonely. I have friends who have a bird, and she only screams like that when she's in the room by herself. Animals need communication, too. And if her screaming is so irritating to you, you should've thought a/b that before you bought her.

i will tell you that birds are not for every one.you have to have alot of patience for them. feathers will be every where,,seeds will be every where and they do enjoy themselves. they are playful creatures and they make ALOT of noise. i have 5 parakeets..3 finches and 2 lovebirds. my 2 lovebirds make more noise than the 5 parakeets ! you might try to train the bird by covering with a light cloth when the noise gets too much but even with that..birds need the daylight to move about for exercise and to eat..when they quit making the noise,,take the cover off but do not leave it on all day,,,you'll kill the bird slowly that way. one of your other answers was to give it to someone who wants it....i would do that..can't find anyone..a petshop will take it.

She just wants the attention, if she doesn't have any other friend birds you have to pay her alot of attention or she will get lonely or depressed. Or if she's used to other birds she's calling them. It's her instinct you shoud have found out more about her and her species before buying her. It's not her fault your not prepared for looking after her.
