I think if we started the draft again, many people would flee to Canada or Mexico. Americans should not be forced to fight in wars they don't believe in.

I personally think we should go to war with North Korea if they continue doing what they have been (missle tests and whatnot) but nobody should be forced to do it.

Come on man, get realistic! Right now we have an all volunteer military, and yet we still have Americans complaining about the war, and even some soldiers complaining about the war and the military. I am in the military and have been to the war. I wish all the damn idiots that joined for college money or some other stupid reason would just shut the hell up and do their damn jobs instead of complaining about it. The purpose of the military is to fight, anyone who joined not expecting to have to do that at some point is an ignorant fool. Korea or not, we don't need a draft. We just need people who are willing to fight for their country, they make much better soldiers than people who would be forced to.

Definately not: today's warfare is not all it was like in the world war two era. Back then, most of the fighting was done with troops on the ground, or troops on ships, or troops in the air; however, today, if a large war like that were to start between us and North Korea, I really think that most of the horrendous fighting would take place in the first few minutes, hours, or days, with Nuclear and missile projectile warfare.

the answer to draft is a touchy subject. i would not like one to happen but also you can not keep sending the same soldiers to iraq over and over. they get tired. some are lucky to make it back the first time but not the second. look my husband is going for the third time in his five years of service. we have two children and every time he leaves it gets harder and harder. we havent even reenlisted they are extending the troops who want to get out just to do it. the military is very slim right now. people who say we should go to war with korea are not in the military themselves. if you were you would not be saying this. everytime my husband goes he hasnt yet brought all his men back. this is real stuff!! so draft????????? please dont keep sending the same men back.

I think we should re-instate the draft, but for very different reasons. When the sons and daughters of the wealthy and middle class are as much in jeapordy as the sons and daughters of the lower-income people, maybe we'd think a little more carefully before sending them in to battles for oil. That's the biggest difference between Iraq and Vietnam...

No, not now. For one, we don't need it, there is plenty of warm bodies serving at the moment. For two, I just don't like the idea of forcing any of our citizens to do something against their will. Those who serve because they are drafted do it begrudgingly and do not serve their country with their hearts.
The biggest difference between todays soldiers and the Viet Nam soldiers is todays soldiers are passionate about serving their country because it was their own decision to do so. Maybe that is why they are treated with more respect than the Viet Nam era soldiers.

The US doesn't need a draft until we get shorter on soldiers, there is no reason for it. they would only be standing around waisting time, and money.Until something happens there should be no draft, even if something does happen, the Military is larger than most believe.

How would re-instating compulsory military service have any bearing on North Korea's missile program?

Unless you seem to think we would deploy ground troops? which would likely be a disastrous move for all involved.

There is no need to start a draft. What they need to do is stop engaging in so many military escapades.

Yes, with no exemptions and political leaders children will be the first selected.
Sorry, we shouldn't just be instituting it because of N. Korea; it should just be done anyway..(For fairness).
