I'm here on Bible Gateway, just read through Genesis chapter 1, I didn't read the name of Adam anywhere.

Are we to assume this is Adam, and if so, does this mean that Genesis is not the word for word of God?

I'm not trying to trick anyone here, its just I'm asking these questions one guy says Adam is made on day 8, and theres lots of different interpretations, don't see why if its not the word for word of God and its open to peoples interpretations, why is my interpretation that there is an evolution of man from a common ancestor a wrong interpretation? If its not the word for word of God, and again, I am not seeing Adam here in chapter 1, let me look one more time, hmm, not there.

Adam was not yet created in Genesis 1.That is the account of the creation of mankind and the earth.Genesis 2 is the account of Adams creation and the recreation of all the beasts in Eden.
You read it,is that how it reads?
I don't want to say that evolution is completely wrong.I just think that science has not yet found the proper interpretation of the evidence. That is not unheard of,science revises itself often as it should.

Adam's name is not mentioned until Genesis Chapter 2. You ask "why is my interpretation that there is an evolution of man from a common ancestor" and honestly, this is why I'm a Christian that has no problem with evolution. Our concept of time and God's concept of time are very different. How do we know that there wasn't evolution and dinosaurs in God's plan? How do you know these "days" weren't eons? I mean really, how many times was the bible translated before it was actually in English. People don't stop and think for themselves most of the time.

You're asking a weird question. Of course, the first man is Adam and Genesis is the word of God. Man was created by God, not evolved from anything and the only common ancestor we all share on this planet is God himself. If you're truly reading Genesis, the answer is right in front of you. Interpretations are sad, are they not, when everyone can interpret anything to suit their wants and needs, especially for the cause of starting debates or getting on your case.
Genesis also means "beginning".

Adam is the ancient hebrew name for man. The first time God called man by the name of Adam was: Gen 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

You are correct. Chapter one is a summary of creation. Chapter two expounds on this outline and provides the details (which includes the name of Adam)

You really disappointed me with this one, Jim. I'm beginning to wonder if you are really as clever as I once thought you were.
