I absolutely LOVE my Jack Russell terrier! Since I don't have kids yet, he is my baby! Some people think I'm a bit much because he IS a dog, but I don't care! I love him!
How is your pup your baby?

Thanks for the wonderful stories you all posted!! It made me smile! It's good to know that others share treating their babies as their babies and not just dogs. They ARE a part of the family! They have their little personalities, make us laugh, there for us when we cry, and they never answer back! lol

I have seven kids. Some four-legged and some two-legged. I love them all the same. My dogs are just as spoiled as my kids. You can't walk through my living room without stepping on a toy, whether it be a mega block or a dog bone, or even worse... one of those rope toys with the knots in the ends. Those hurt!
My dogs get home-cooked food often, though no junk-food. Just good beef or boneless chicken, rice, pasta, veggies, etc. They all have their own blankies in thier crates and two wading pools in the nice, green fenced-in yard. I don't "baby" them per se, but we do speak to them in a normal person-to-person tone, and treat them just as members of the family. The kids have been taught to respect the dogs and their feelings just as we do each other's. I think that's very important. And as a result, we have very happy, well-adjusted, intelligent dogs and very gentle, kind-hearted kids.
We pick on them just as we do the kids, and they have the best little senses of humor! They play right along with us and pick on each other, too. One of our dogs will sneak up on the couch and drop toys on another dog's head while he's sleeping on the floor, just to watch us all laugh. (You'd think he'd learn not to sleep there anymore, but he hasn't.) Sounds like something a little brother would do, doesn't it? *heh*
The same levels of medical attention, the same levels of mental stimulus (very important as well), and the same levels of affection and love. People think I'm loony around here, and I'll admit that I'm starting to tip out of my rocker a bit, but I couldn't do it any other way. My heart doesn't have a limit just because they aren't human... That would be foolish.
Dogs are *so* easy to love...

I am like you, I have no kids, my dog is my baby. His name is Doc, he is the sweetest little thing in the world! He watches over me, when I am sick he will cuddle and make me feel better. I had surgery a few months back and he was so gentle and concerned it made me smile a lot. I do believe that a dog (or cat) shouldn't be JUST that. They should be a member of the family. My parents call me "mom" to my dog, and they are "grandma & grandpa". We all know the importance of a good pet. When Doc was born (exactly 1 week after my birthday) I was there to see him. We owned his mom, grandma, great-grandma, and my parents have his brother. He gets to go to their place during the day so they can hang out. It's hard to believe that they are 11 1/2, they act like they are 5!

Hehe, I feel the same way about my little Cocker Spaniel. She's a spoiled brat, but she was rescued from a shelter and had an abusive puppy-hood so I feel like she deserves a bit of extra attention. She has a crate but half the time I let her sleep on my bed, since she doesn't like the crate and will grumble through the night if she has to sleep there - even though she has the softest, fluffiest bed I've ever seen. I go on about her like she's my little kid, and even had a framed picture of her at work :)

Yes, my puppy is my baby. We all say I am his mommy and he gives me a kiss goodnight before going to bed (in all seriousness, when we get into bed he walks over to me, gives me a kiss, and then lays down and starts snoring away). I look after him as my child, and would risk my life for him. He is too cute not to!

I do consider my dogs my babies, but I still dont' spoil them. I don't let them get away with stuff or anything, but my family and I do refer to me as their "mommy" and if you ask them go find "mommy" they can usually find me, lol.
