Can you gte highlights without pulling you hair up and looking like a skunk?

Sure. My wife gets highlights and she doesn't ever have the skunk look.

For a great summer look... go buy a spray bottle and put hydrogen peroxide in it. Spray it on your hair when it's wet (not too much, it works fast). Give it a few days and if you want more then add more peroxide. It's much better for your hair (and cheaper... its' like TOTAL $2.50) than getting salon highlights put in.
Give it a try and if you don't like it you don't have to wait to go drop $$ in the salon.

Yes - just get your hair foiled. It co$ts more, but looks great. Don't want to pay as much - become friends with a hairdresser! I have an aunt who is a hairdresser who does me for free!

You can have it foiled to where you get all over highlights. It's little more pricy but it can get you the look you want.

Yeah, I got highlites yesterday, and they look really good. Except my hair is so short now that I can't pull it up.

Yup, go to a good salon and have it done. Expect to pay $100 or more.
