In mythology, Kerberos (the dog of Hades-the Underworld) is probably the best candidate, as it is identified with Death. In literature, the Hound of the Baskervilles is the best known canine terror, but even in this case the true crime was conceived and demonstrated by human malice. It has been argued that pit-bulls are the most dangerous dogs (and they can be cannibals indeed, but only when driven to madness by blood-thirsty breeders/owners) but surveys show the most incidents of dogs biting people come from crossbred dogs (some hybrids are highly unpredictable, man-shy or reluctant to training and especially numerous wolf hybrids have a tendency to be fear biters as they have neither normal dog nor normal wolf behavior). In short, it is never the dog's fault - it is possible for a dog to be born insane and its behavior not influenced at all by human society, but since today very few dogs are truly wild (belonging to non-domesticated species) and most or all dogs that come into contact with humans are "man-made" (resulting from selective or random breeding done by man) a dangerous dog can only be a man-made danger: a creature subjected to suffering, pain and cruelty at critical stages of its development, by an irresponsible or criminally insane owner, or used as an ego-powertool; dogs become dangerous only when forced to go into defence or pray drive. And whoever does the forcing, is the true danger. Human nature, perhaps? I would say that the most dangerous dog, ever, can only be the dog bred, used and abused by the most dangerous person ever - an antisocial, cruel and violent human "master"...

a dog usually isn't dangerous unless it is mis treated. Everyone always says that it is the pit bull or the rotti, but in my personal opinion, all dogs can be dangerous, but it is all how they are treated and brought up. If they are brought up in a nice friendly atmosphere with kids who play with the dog then chances are that it will be a friendly dog, but if there is a dog that is in a house that never gets fed, and the owners neglect the dog, and that the dog has been beaten or something along the lines of that then chances are that the dog is going to be mean and dangerous.

There most certainly are bad dogs as well as bad owners. Its a myth that all bad dogs are made that way by bad handling.
The most dangerous dog is one that has not been properly socialised or handled as a pup, and is not under its owners control as an adult. These are the dogs that kill. Dogs that have a dominant and aggressive attitude, and have learned to break the taboo against biting are a serious risk to the owner and anyone else. Dogs that have a 'hard' and 'stubborn' attitude (as defined by dog trainers) are the ones that trainers least enjoy working with.

All dogs have the potential of being dangerous. It's the ignorant people that own them that make them a danger. So I would say that Man is the most dangerous. People that fight dogs for sport, mistreat them, and don't feel it is important to properly train their dogs are what is the most dangerous. I have a Pit mix and she is the most loving, sweet, great with children, and people friendly dog I have ever met. It's my Rat Terrior that you need to watch out for!

I totally disagree with those people who say a rottie is one of the most dangerous dogs, I've got a 9 month old rottie and he is soft, gentle, loving and just wants to be friends with everyone! I'd trust him 100 times more than a Jack Russell or a Yorkshire Terrier. Believe me, both a JR & YT have had a go at him when we've been out and he just looks at them with disdain! As for kids, he loves them, can't eat a whole one yet though! Have a look at the link below, the breeder we got him from and you will see just how stunning they are.

Their is no breed that is "the most dangerous". No animal is born evil, unless its owner abuses it or something. The only dog i can think of that is the most dangerous are those "fighting dogs". Their specially bred to kill one another and are used for sport in some countries.
