To create something that is the origin of a thought, would require an original thought. If the thought of that source is yours alone, then you do own the thoughts from that source, as property. If it's not unique to you, ownership would not be right. But if it's scary, kill it...

I'm trying to figure out why people would create a consciousness for the purpose of enslaving it. Why would you give a machine the ability to think and learn and then say 'do my bidding'? Aren't you just asking for trouble by doing that?
I'm sure the christians will be the first to want to destroy machine minds for having no 'soul'. (What about Soulbot 483123?)
Ever read Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan? He has some interesting things to say about christian reaction to technology and consciousness in the future.

Of course we would oppress them. We are guilty of doing it to people with souls so why wouldn't we do it to AI even if we created them.
