I have a 1997 V8 Dakota with almost 200,000 miles on it and the only major problem I have ever had was the automatic transmission die around 10,000 miles,But the warranty covered it and I was told that dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth was having a problem with automatic transmissions at that time in all their vehicles.

I have a 2003 Dakota SXT with the 3.9 V-6 and automatic transmission. Other than being slightly underpowered (my opinion), it's been a good truck. No major complaints as of yet!

I have owned 2 Dakota,s. A 1995 and a 2003 both were great vehicles and I had absolutely no trouble with either one.

I have a '99 with the 3.9l v6. I love it. Decent gas milage, good power. Only problem is that it's hard to find any engine mods for the v6. Here's a site for them Just click on the menu under the google search & go to the dakota area. Lots of help:
