It was a dark grey, and swelled up like a balloon. It was maybe a centimeter tall. My dog didn't act like he was in pain, but once we got the bug off, there was a little red divet in his forehead where the bug was. It was hard to get off, and once we squished it, a lot of blood came out. Any ideas?

If you pull them off the head might tear off and stay in your dog and infect. also check you and your household members for said same. Get to the pet store and get tic and flea powder. take action NOW. If this gets out of hand it WILL get real real bad hollywood couldn't come up with a horror movie worst than if you don't get going!!!!!!

A Tick would be my guess... it was filled up like a balloon w/ your dogs blood. Thats why there was so much blood when you got it off -- most of it was from inside the bug. Make sure to give your dog a bath w/ Tick Shampoo -- so you make sure that you get all of them/it off. Sometimes they can burrow deep, and part of the bug may still be in your dog. Ticks can cause diseases, so make sure to scrub the dog good :)

Well everyone seems to think it was a tick, I think you should go with that. Ticks can cause very serious diseases so I think you should take your dog to the vet right away.

i would say a tick.
one thing with those ticks, you HAVE TO MAKE SURE YOU GET THE HEAD. the tick's head can live the rest of it's live attached to your dog, without it's body. for god's sake, MAKE SURE YOU GOT THE HEAD!!!
