How can I set up a list of customer names and phone numbers that i can save and add to as my customer base grows? I want to be able to read the list alphabetically by name and/or state.

First of all, the previous respondent, MangeMasta, is a jerk. Why even post a response like that? It reduces the value of this Yahoo Answers system.

Railroad_guy, there are two solutions to your problem:

(a) Free. Use the Windows Address Book capability: it is free with Windows.

Go to the Start Button, and select All Programs > Accessories > Address Book

Or if you use Outlook Express to check email, you can get to the Address Book directly by clicking on "Addresses" in the toolbar, or going to Tools > Address Book in the menubar.

This is a built-in address book where you can input email addresses, etc.; you can sort by state; etc. And it's free.

(b) Cheap, but better. There are all sorts of contact management software solutions for small businesses that are very very cheap, and much more "tailored" to your utilization.

Act! and GoldMine are probably the most popular and well-known. They are both about $150-$175. (There are more expensive versions for "workgroups" -- if you need more than one person to use the software in a small company network; but from the context of your question I am fairly sure you only need one user).
