what is your opinion about it? God has so many people to love him like evangelists, priests, nuns. but my parents have only me to love them.
Furthur if God is love, he would want us to love our fellow beings. Is he that selfish that he wants us to love him above everyone?

It's in the Ten Commandments to honour your mother and father. You can love your God, but to dishonour your parents in the process is a direct affront to God.......... you shame both parties. And who quantifies love? I love deeply and strongly, but not in any amount...........

God is love, your friend is Right, you must love God more than anyone, or anything. But here is the good news, the more you love God, the more you can love others. You don't have to love your parent's any less, you just have to love God more. One of the entries quotes the bible saying you must "hate" a list of people but thats a poor translation, the actual greek says love less and the sense of the verse is actually you must love God more than lists the group. From Experience I can tell you that after recieving Christ as my Lord and Saviour my capacity to love others has increased beyond measure. I Love my wife and children with a love greater than I could have previously imagined simply because I love God more. At least try, sincerely try to love and obey God more than anything else and see what happens, you have nothing to lose and an eternity of love and joy to gain.

Yes, it is true that you must love God more than anyone or anything else. This does not mean that you shouldn't love your parents, God wants us to love everyone. Also, keep in mind that there are different meanings for love in the bible, specifically there are 5 because of the 5 Greek words for love.

I think your friend took it a bit overboard there. I'm not a Christian, but I used to be. As I see it, loving others is loving God. So therefore, you should love your parents unconditionally.

It is right to love God above anyone but God also commanded us to obey our parents, respect and listen to them. You'll see much of that teaching in proverbs.

If you put god first and formost everything else will fall into place, god loves you so much would it hurt to love him. If you love god with all your heart mind and strength just think how much you could love your parents.

It is true. Jesus said (Luke 14:26), "Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple."
It seems that God wants us to hate everyone except Him.
