I know N. Korea launched a long-range nuke and it failed. I'm not sure of this but I think I remember hearing that N. Korea actually launched a long-range nuke at the United States and it failed. Even if they didn't launch it at the United States, do you think we should declare war?

A lot of Americans, unfortunately, appear to have their facts skewed. Pick up a copy of the New York Times and the facts will become more clear. At this point in time, it is wise to trust only the most superior forms of news to avoid getting the wrong information (like from USAToday or Fox News). Here are the facts as they are this morning:

- North Korea has NOT been launching nuclear weapons at the United States. North Korea, as it has announced, has been TESTING benign missiles (not loaded with nuclear weapons) near the Sea of Japan. None of these missiles have been targeted at any country. They were meant to be deployed in the water. Most of North Korea's missile launches have failed due to technical difficulties.

- As I mentioned before, these test missiles are NOT LOADED with nuclear weapons. That would be a waste of North Korea's nuclear arsenal to test actual nuclear bombs. They are only testing the missiles.

- North Korea's only dealing with the United States is that it has stated that if the United States attempts to use military force to stop North Korea from safely testing its missiles, it will retaliate.

- As of today, the two biggest countries (of five, including the United States) on the alliance council have stated that they will NOT stand behind the United States if we decide to go to war with North Korea. These two countries are China and Russia.

- To this minute, North Korea is NOT an immediate threat. Since it is not doing anything to DIRECTLY harm the United States, it is in our best interest to wait and see what North Korea does next. If we act hastily and in fear, we will start a full-scale nuclear war with North Korea...but we will not have the help and support of Russia or China. The other two countries in our alliance are Japan and Britain. It would be unwise to rely alone on these two remaining countries, since Blair is on his way out and Japan's interests in getting involved in a war are very limited.

The USA war in Korea did not work out well the first time in 1951. The US military should do something useful for once...like stop the destruction of the amazon rain forest or overthrow the Cambodian government and free all the child sex slaves. Or invade Peru, Bolivia and Columbia and stop the cocaine production before that crap gets to the USA.

We've been at war with N. Korea since 1950, a cease fire has been in effect since 1953; we currently have the 2nd ID deployed in S. Korea (around 22,000) with the 82nd and 101st in ready-deployment status along with other 'readiness' outfits.

The Kitty Hawk Strike group is in forward deployment in the Pacific Ocean with the nearby Nimitz Strike group in the Persian Gulf readily available if needed.

Was it not just a rocket test without the warhead inside? Would be kind of stupid on their part to launch it and not be too sure of where it was going to land.

Done my time in S. Korea, you don't want to get anything started with them. We only have limited resources available. History will tell you that you do not want to have skirmishes on more fronts that you have resources. Look at Hitler and Napoleon.

Enough of wars... The US seems to wage wars far away from its homeland all the time... I believe in wars when one is attacked (Pearl Harbor is a good example). The preventive wars (Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq...) have all pretty much failed to achieve intended results.

Naw, war is not necessary at this time.

If we did go to war with them, they'd use nukes because they're crazy. And we'd use nukes, too. It would be a mess and I don't think North Korea is too confident in themselves yet to make war with the U.S.

They're just bluffing.

I think that the states and alot of other countries are paranoid until a country acctualy does somthing to your counrty how can you harrass them I think of it as nothing more than school yard bullying . I( would not like another country telling us what to do exsspressing concerns are one thing but . giving ultimatums are another. look at how many missiles the states tested did anybody tell them what to do they set of nukes on their own land they are brainless to destroy their own land . I also think some countries are only looking for respect not attention.

no. i think we should try peaceful negotiations first, believe it or not. if that fails, i think the UN should be pulled into it, i don't think we should just barge in with one of our 'police actions' again.
also i think we need to finish Iraq (which was never actually declared a war) before we go into something else. we can't fight everyone at once.
