If you don't plan on breeding her, why don't you spay her? This will eliminate all of her menstrual problems, and you would be doing your part to control the pet population.

It is called a heat cycle in a dog. You can expect it to last for about 21 days.
The first 5 or 6 days she will just be really swollen in her personal area but there wont be a lot of blood spots.
The spotting will be much more noticeably between the 6th and the 15th day.
This will also be the time you will have to watch her, don't let her out of your sight for a second, she will romance ANY dog she sees during this time.....and you do not want unplanned puppies.
The last 4 or 5 days there will be almost not spotting.
This will happen between every 5 to 8 months, it varies from dog to dog, just like periods do between women.
The only way to stop her from coming in heat is to have her spayed, this can be done by your local vet and you can have her back at home the same day.

I am a vet tech and I would say that sounds normal. if she does this more than 2 weeks I would get her checked. There periods are alot like humans they can bleed 3 to 14 days , but after that I would get her looked at because she could have female problems such as a cist. If she has had sex she could have had a miscarriage, and that is why she is still bleeding and if thats the case take her to the vet. If the bleeding is bothering you with messing, you can put underwear on her or a diaper. THis is just my opinion not medical advice. go to your Vet for that. I only want to help with ideas. Good Luck!!!

A dog's (any breed) heat cycle usually lasts for 3 weeks (give or take)...to stop it from ever happening again, get her fixed....dogs (female) usually come into heat every 6 months (some will come in 1 time a yr or every 5 months...6 is normal)....most vets will not fix a dog while in heat, so wait for 2 more weeks and then get it done...if you don't, expect to do this again in 6 months!

Dogs don't menstruate. They have an estrus cycle. The bleeding should last 6-9 days. Normally though there isn't a large amount of blood, usually it's a somewhat clear red fluid that drips. If there is a large amount of bleeding, there may be something else going on with her.
I think it's too late for any medications to stop the estrus cycle at this point. (check with your vet though things change )

You dog is in heat. No there is nothing you can do to make it stop at the moment. You can go to the store and buy panty liners and panties for your dog. The heat cycle lasts from 2 to 3 weeks, depending on breed and other factors. Once the cycle is over, I would contact your vet and have her spayed. You might find these websites helpful:

Your dog is not on her period - she is "in heat". Dogs are in heat about 3 weeks. There is nothing you can do to make it stop. Get her spayed about a week after her heat cycle has stopped to prevent her from going into heat again. Dogs go into heat about every 6 months. This is her fertile time, so keep her inside as much as possible and carefully monitored outside unless you want her to have puppies. Pet supply stores do carry pad/diaper things that you can put on dogs when they are in heat to keep your home from being so messy.

The pet stores sell these cute little diaper cover called Fancy Pants. They are usually real pretty and lacey. You will be going through this every 6 months or so. As the males in you neighborhood catch wind of this (they can smell it for a mile), you will have them camped out in your yard, howling, peeing, and making a mess, just waiting for her to come out. I had a female once that could not be spayed for medical reasons. I lived this way for 10 years with her. Get her spayed!
