Toddlers have an unrealistic fear that they will bleed to death from the tiniest cut, scratch, or scrape. They do not comprehend wound healing on any level at this age. A bandaid fixes the problem. If the blood isn't coming out, and can't be seen then the child feels that everything is OK.

Band-aids represent love to a toddler. When he/she gets an "owie," a parent runs to their aid, gives them love and attention and puts a band-aid on what hurts (even if it really doesn't need one!) The child associates band-aids with love and attention! It's like they've covered themselves with a hug!

If you mean on scrapes and such, it's because pressure makes them hurt and bleed less. If you mean just everywhere, it's just plain fun. My toddler likes putting a piece of tape on her nose or elsewhere...it's the same thing.

Because they know how expensive they are. They enjoy watching mom and dad squirm at the sight of their hard earned money fly away. The first of many manipulative retaliations.
