HIV is a start to AIDS and there is no cure to either or a prevention. It depends on the person as to when their HIV will change to AIDS. For some people it can be like 3 months and others 10 years. It can be any where in between, sooner than that, or later than that, you never know. But if a person thinks they might have the disease then they should go to the doctor right away to see what stage it might be at and what they can do to make their time alive last longer. AIDS is a deadly thing. Once you have it, that's it.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS(Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome). AIDS is the name of a syndrome associated with people who's immune system fails as a result of this virus. HIV can be prevented by practicing safe-sex and not being an IV drug user. HIV is a bloodborne pathogen, meaning it is passed through body fluid contact. Although condoms can not guarantee 100% that you will not contract this or any other disease, it reduces your risk greatly. HIV CAN NOT BE CURED, but thankfully due to research, it doesn't mean a death sentence either. There are several antiviral drugs, called the "HIV cocktail", if taken early enough and continued throughout the patient's entire life, that are able to keep the virus at bay and extend the lifespan of the patient. Without these drugs, there is not a generally accepted amount of time that HIV will turn into AIDS ... some people, through exercise and healthy living, never develop the syndrome, others die within a year. The most important thing is staying away from IV drugs and practicing safe sex ... a little common sense when picking your partners goes a long way as well.

I don't know how long it takes to become a full-blown aids patient from HIV, but I DO know that unfortunately it IS NOT curable, but IT CAN be prevented! (They make us take a TON of classes on this at school, so I know a little!) So, IF you have HIV, you'll get AIDS IN TIME, and it isn't curable! :( But go to your doctor and talk about it for more information! Sorry I couldn't give you any more!

HIV is the virus. Like all other viruses, there is no cure. AIDS is classified when your T-cell count falls below a certain number AND when your have 2 or more opportunistic diseases. This means, for example, if you have pneumonia AND thrush at the same time. It must be the T-cell count AND 2 or more opportunistic diseases to qualify you as crossing over from HIV to AIDS. There is no time schedule for the cross over to happen. It depends on diet, exericise, exposure to others, medications and the virulence of the virus. We all know that's it's pretty virulent but some succomb quicker than others. It also depends on your stress level and previous underlying medical conditions. It's important that whoever has HIV/AIDS join a support group.

The time it takes from HIV infection to symptomatic AIDS depends on the virus strain, medical care and treatments the patient is receiving, and the health of the patient at the time of infection. If the patient is healthy and receives thorough medical care, the onset of AIDS can be delayed for years.
There is currently no cure or preventative for HIV infection. There is lots of ongoing research to find a cure or vaccine, but right now the best advice if to prevent infection is by being cautious around others' bodily fluids and always practicing safe sex.

If we took all the cost of the hype and the price of ink for news stories and applied it to research a cure may be found a lot sooner. I think it is one of the new Red Scares, in this case blood. People make money around the HIV/AIDS situation, it has become a cottage industry. Not that there are not people who care, many are working on the problem and are dedicated to a solution, and they have to pay rent like anyone else. Money is a big factor. Over population may be another.

HIV is a virus. Depending on your immune system depends on how long before and if you develop AIDS. There are treatments to slow the virus, but as of yet no cure. Magic Johnson (ex basketball player) is HIV positive and he is doing very well with the treatment. It can be prevented by safe sex, don't share drug needles etc.. there are tons of information on the net.

hiv is not curable. it does lead to Aids but its different for every patient. yes there are ways to prevent it some ways are dont use dirty needles. like injected illegfal drugs(herion for one) always use a condom when having sex. dont sleep with loads of people. if you know someone who as hiv or aids be very careful when handling thier blood. use rubber or latex gloves. the key is getting tested. both you and your sex partner before engaging in sex, still use a condom. it can take 10 years for aids to show up. think smart and play it safe. only have sex with one partner, in fact wait til your married to have sex.
