I am just wondering if anyone else thinks back on decisions they have made in the past that they would never make now and have guilt? I know this is a general question but I look back on a lot of things I have done that are not my proudest moments and I have major anxiety and stress due to it. Is this normal. Also, it has been over 3 years that most of these things took place yet I still can't forgive myself. Is anyone else tormented by their pasts? If so, how do you cope?

yes it is but you have to relaize that there is nothing that will change about your past decisions and that you just have to accept that you may have made the wrong one. It is best if you can just put them out of you mind.

Hi,
Yes, I think at some point, everyone feels that way.
There are some regrets that are harder to get over with than others.
Mainly, you need to focus on what you have learned from your mistakes, and only try not to repeat them.
That is, sadly, all that can be done.
If it was a "bad" action, try to "pay it off" by doing a good action in exchange. Maybe you still won't forgive yourself, but you'll feel better.
And clearly, don't let these negative thoughts run or ruin your life, what is done is done, just turn the page, and move on, but know that the memory will always be there. And it's ok, maybe the memory is there to help us be better people....:-)
If you are regretting, it means you have already become better....
Cheers!

Go to a good shirnk...Another idea is to confont those effected by decisions you made and ask how those decisions effected them personally. If they give a negative response than be aplogetic and just say you had to take some action and weren't aware that the consequences would effect them the way they did. Venting or apologizing are always the best ways to rid yourself of torment...Of course you could always make better more informed decisions resulting in better courses of action.

It may be helpful if you would list those things that you did and who were affected by them.

Take courage that you will not want to repeat them, or do further 'bad things' to build up that 'guilt inventory - or the guilt bank account'.

Go to that person(s) and tell them you are sorry for hurting them and ask for their forgiveness.

Forgiveness releases you from the guilty feelings. Actually, asking for forgiveness is for your own benefits! If, and it is an 'if' the other person(s) do not forgive you, it is to their detriment.

Go talk to someone whom you respect and matured to talk about these problems. Having someone willing to emphatise with you will help alot; and then may lead you to ask for forgiveness.

It is a powerful thing - FORGIVENESS.

Yes, When I was younger I was a little hoodlum and when the things I regret doing pop into my head I go over them as completely as I can and I then tell myself Boy do I regret doing that. I have hopes that I'll remember it, if and when I live my next life.So when I go to do it again I will stop myself. I do hope to get a chance to live my life again so I can straighten out some of my blunders. Then when I fix them all I'll get to go to a higher level

The best thing is to not regret the past. Remember that it is already done and it is time to move on. You're not really regretting the past as much as you wish you didn't feel this way. The sooner you can move on the better you can feel. You shouldn't have to regret the way you are living now.

Oh sure there are tons of things I've done that I regret and feel guilty about, but I don't let it get to me because I just don't think about it. Past is the past and nothing can be done about it.

We all do things we are not proud of. It is perfectly normal to feel guilty, but you need to let it go. You can not change what happened. The only thing you can do is move forward and make sure that whatever you did to make you feel guilty is never done again.

Guilt is normal. Anxiety isn't. Learn from your mistakes and be strong enough to hold your head up high and move on. Tell yourself nobody is perfect.
