I have searched on line for a manual, I have been unable to find one. I searched the manufacturer website and quite a few others.

I could not find this manual either, but it looks like the Sharp EL-2630 is another consumer printing calculator tha has a date function, and Sharp has that manual online. Perhaps the calculators are similar enough that the instructions for the 2630 will work for the 2196.

From the 2630 manual:
1. Find the "Grand Total/Rate Setting switch (it's labelled with "GT * RATE SET)
2. Set this to RATE SET.
3. Type in today's date using the "." key (to the right of the "00" key) as the separator. For example, July 6 of 2006 would be entered 7 . 6 . 2006
4. Press the Clock/Calendar key (one of the top row function keys, it looks like a little clock face on the left and a callendar on the right).
5. Enter the correct time, in military time, using the "." as a separator. For example, for 2:56 PM, you would type in 14 . 56
6. Press the clock calendar key, wait a three seconds, and press the clock calendar key again.
7. Center the Grand Total switch.

I hope this works for you! I hate guessing like this, but if this is all we can find, we might as well give it a try.

Go to the manufacturers website and search for your brand of calculator. They should have the manual for it down loadable. Its usually a pdf. file.

I have black dots on top & red dashes on the bottom of my tape when trying to print. If a number is enter, it is shown, but in a very small version.
