There is no point at all. God knew when He created Adam when you would be born, when you would die, every prayer you would ever say and every thought you would ever have. So each time you pray to God you are merely doing exactly what He expected you to do, which has to be very tedious for Him.

Of course prayer doesn't do anything. If you think I am wrong why don't all you Christians pray for cancer to vanish tonight. Cancer is a horrible disease, let's ask God to stamp it out. The Bible says that our prayers would be answered. In fact I have a prayer just for all you Christians out there:

Dear God, almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the universe, we pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet tonight. We pray in faith, knowing you will bless us as you describe in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

I'm willing to bet that no matter how many Christians pray for this tonight, there will still be cancer tomorrow.

Haha, i've thought the same thing. Why pray for a car if it RUINS God's ultimate plan! I mean, if i get a car, then God will make it happen , without me praying or not. But if I pray for osmething it's not gonna change what God ultimately wants. My rationalizatoin is that you're not supposed to pray for crap like that, praying is really more for establishing a connection with God and creating a relationship with him; to help make you more spiritual and moral I suppose. Not saying that if you pray you're a better person, but if you try and establish a connection to God, you're more than likely to be improving yourself.

God wants us to pray for the same reason we say thank you to people who help us out, the same reason we say I love you, and the same reason we communicate every day. Just because God knows everything anyway, doesn't mean we should ignore Him. How would you feel if you gave everything to someone and didn't even get acknowledged?

the relationship one has with the omnipresent is 2 way street through prayer we show our gratitude and we can repent for our sins there is free will in this world so based on what you do happens. you say g-d knows everything that is true but the human mind cant understand such and infinite being there is no time element in g-d mind things are happening simultaneously the crusades are going the same time Hitler is taking over Europe and the same time the towers have fallen if such events happen simultaneously in g-d outlook then we have no control . g-d gives every being the chance to comeback. additionally there is a great element behind the psychological affect it has on the human race. if you were dying or in a bad situation imagine if you couldn't have said g-d, Jesus, Allah, whomever , please save me imagine humans didnt pray and they just stood there with no hope thats why prayer is needed without prayer there is no hope and belief

I believe we are even told to pray in the bible, that's what I learned in confirmation, but I don't have the scripture with me right now.

For some people, praying is like meditation, for others it's a way to have a personal relationship with God, like checking in with Him throughout your day. Ideally, it's like a "Thank you" or a "What do you think?" way of working through your problems with a reference to what God would want.

God communes with us and by we praying to Him we communicate with him and thus build a relationship as you would with a friend. Because of sin we are separated from God until he returns the second time. But we have the Biblical account of the prophets and the apostles that prayed and thus communing with God they became stronger and wiser as God revealed to them his will. God knows everything but we don't and the communication we have with God now is through ernest prayer life and through the written word.

Well first of all that has nothing to do anything.God has brought you into this world and if you want to go to heaven then you should pray, because God gave you life and he deserves some from people too.Of course God knows everything.Sorry I had to be harsh because I am very religious.

You hit the nail on the head! There is nothing written anywhere that god instructs man to pray to him or, in simple terms, " kiss his rear end". That is man's invention. All religions are man's invention. Why would god whisper to anybody to write books about what he wants? Well, for Christians, the only passage from the bible that can be cited is Jesus' (supposedly said) "love God and love one another". Does "love" mean pray?

It's a way to keep the soul in touch with God. By praying you are pulled away from the physical plane and all it's tempations and giving God sole attention.

Why Do We Need to Pray?

"...For your Father knows the things you have need of
before you ask Him."
Matthew 6:8

This scripture states that our heavenly Father knows exactly what we need before we ever ask Him...but if we're not telling God anything He doesn't already know, why do we need to pray?

"Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in
My name He will give it to you." John 16:23.

And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name I will do it." John 14:13,14

God tells us to pray so that we will be able to see the results of our communion with Him. If we never asked the Lord to do anything for us, we would never expect anything from Him. It is reasonable to state that if God provided for our needs in the absence of prayer, we would not recognize the miracles as
coming from God. We would more than likely give credit to something or someone else for what He should have been glorified for, and we would not be any closer to knowing or trusting Him than before we were blessed.
Therefore, the Lord tells us to pray and ask Him for "whatever" so that we can be in a state of expectation for the supernatural moving of God on our behalf.

Answered prayer creates the trust necessary to strengthen our bond with Jesus and testifies of His faithfulness to perform His promises.
