I am in debt big time. If I could do it over, I would go about it way smarter. But because I was irresponsible, I am paying for it now. Ahhhh, the joy of life's little lessons!!

12- credit cards. I had never pay late or any interest. The full balances {some with more than 50% of the credit line.} are pay off each month. I was rewarded by one of my creditors with a courtesy month {no payment required} for my responsible performance for the last consecutive 2-years and on top of that, they waive the annual fee.
Three-others offer me up to 6-months with no interest. Never had any problem communicating with them when the statements are ultra late or have been lost. I'm always on top of my finances and responsibilities. The only beef i got is with Orchard Bank and GE Money Bank, which both refuse to increase my credit lines to my financial status, claiming what i got is more than enough.

I have always had and will always have great credit. A super credit rating. I have been responsible with credit cards since I was 18 (about 30years now). However, at one point i was married to someone who was not as responsible. He was using the card, hiding the bills from me and lying. He took out cards in his own name putting down my income to get them. He was not bad, just always thought he would be able to pay it. When i found out i divorced him because i would not tolerate losing my credit rating and could not trust him with credit. I ended up having to sell my house to pay off all the credit card debt, which i did and moved into an apartment with my late-teens kids. But i was free of debt. And that made me happy. He used to say it was just pieces of paper in the mail. But those pieces of paper will whack your life. Now i have no debt and great freedom to do anything i want cuz i have super credit. Even in the bad times the minimum payment was always made. Thank goodness.

My story is actually pretty good.
I have a bank credit card with a very high limit. They offered 0% balance transfers for 1 year. I transferred a high balance Master Card (and closed it), and a high balance department store card (and closed it). I keep the bank Master Card at home, and I will pay off the balance in a year.
BonesofaTeacher....you tore apart your family and sold your house over a credit score????????

dont get them until you have completely study the way that finance charges are handled, all aspects of the card. I would sugggest an AMerican express, where you cant keep a balance month to month. I think they cabn be a good tool though, you must have the knowlegde to go along with the card.

Always pay the total monthly. The high interest is how the card companies make their money.
