have a 7 year old budgie who's only ever lived with me, has complete freedom to fly round flat. Moving to another country and thought he might be happier in an avory with other budiges. but is this a good move?

Thanks to all replies, am going to keep budgie and get him back to the UK even if it kills me (probably will in the purse area). Thanks again x

no way the bird will stop eating and greive over you not being there. the bird knows your smell voice and being the bird will feel like a foster child and be lost.

At 7 years old I would say that he is by now completely bonded to you. As social animals the bonds that birds create are often for life. If you sever that bond, the bird will go into a state of depression, it will be like a death for them. However, if you have no other optioin, than yes, an aviary filled with other feathered friends will help to lessen the loss, and hopefully your birdy will recover from its loss of you.

Yes it's okay however keep an eye on it of a few days if you can. I may show come sign of stress I found diluting a very very small drop of whisky will help it.
If you can keep it in it's normal cage beside the avory and see how it reacts to the other birds. good luck!
If you or someone see any problems please keep the bird.
P.S. If it takes to the whisky remember to keep it away from the pub?

I've never heard of a pet being successfully introduced, they pine. Its the same as taking a wild bird and expecting it to be happy in a cage in your house.
Try him in a cage within the aviary for a while every day before you go, and it will help if you spend some time with him. So, do you have another aviary lined up for him?

It all depends, if you happen to love your bird keep it. I would not give away my budgies for the world. If you have had it that long, you might miss him and he might miss you. Don't give him away if you care about him, he will probly get sad and miss you so much he might try to take it out on all the other birds. If you care about him, and he cares about you, keep him for the rest of your live.

I think it's best to give him to someone who you know will look after him properly maybe who has budgies or other parrots but who will give him the attention he needs.
