i have just tried to export a avi file from a program called"yahoo mod-maker"and when i tried to look at the file in my videos it gives me one of those annoying" windows explorer has to shut down" messages
ive deleted the offending file, and everything is ok now,but what makes windows give them messages,is it the software you are using,or is it the operating system,i personally think its the software as if it were the op\system it would continue to do it,but its ok now
any ideas?

Well, the stereotypical Windows OS is prone to bugs of the sort:)
Most of the time, the error messages come from Windows itself. I think that this is one of those times. Basically what happened is that Windows and the video file aren't getting along, and the OS is whining about it to you. Makes you feel special, don't it?:P
What software are you using to run the .avi? I don't think that Media Player is capable of supporting that format; I would download Winamp or VLC Media Player and try again.

★★ SYTEM ERRORS ★★

◙ Type it in like this error #999 to http://www.google.com/ Also type in whatever software title you are using if any.

◙ Replace 999 with your number. If there is no number then type in the error message. Either method will work just fine.

◙ If you didn't find the explanation you were looking for try another search engine. Here are several hundred of them.

Do you mean Internet Explorer Tiscali?
If you do the same thing happened to me and I had to shut down and elluminate That program for the computer, and use Mozilla/Mozzilla Firefox instead. Try that!! It might work.
