well there are statistical studies that show correlation between doing yoga and increased mobility and wellness among older people. As far as the exact science behind why this correlation exists- I think this is still a source of debate. I would say it probaby has to do with increasing blood and oxygen flow to parts of the body, as well as probably helping the stimulate communication among the neural passageways in the body, much in the same way accupuncture does.

"slow breathing and some slow-motion streaching" is part of it... but not quite it's purpose.
Science have not discovered the full potential of yoga, since there are certain things that modern technology have not detected on screens... so no, no science.
YOGA its an ancient practice to achieve inner balance in order to be ONE with GOD. There are different stages, and each for a different purpose. You don't need to be religious in order to feel the effects on your body... YOGA is not religion!!!
The one you ask for is the one that was originally design to keep your body healthy and clean while you took care of your mind with other types of yoga. It has been called Hatha Yoga, and it could be defined as psycho - physic - gymnastics. some of this routines are done with still poses called Asanas, and very well thought sequences.
THERE ARE dynamic movements in yoga, and there are some that make you sweet A LOT!! Losing weight is NOT the purpose of yoga, although combined with some alternative medicine (homeopathy and acupuncture) have great results. Having big muscles is not the goal either.
If you ever decide to try, the only two advises i would give you:
1) STOP if it hurts, yoga was not made to hurt while practicing
2) LISTEN carefully to your instructor, when they say breath in, don’t do the opposite or breath through your mouth... cause as easy as they look, you could faint for a moment... they all have a sequence a rhythm, and a certain way to be done, that is not for you to modify and "redesign"
As in everything there are restrictions for practicing without qualified orientations for certain people with problems or certain medical conditions... but more than the restrictions i would point out that there are postures and sequences very appropriate for people with physical disfunctions/ conditions either temporal or permanent (ie. pregnancy, back injuries/ pain... the list is endless!!)
There are many modern adaptations, as for example Pilates... swasthya yoga, ashtanga yoga and kriya yoga... they have been designed for people that believe nothing will happen while practicing with "slow movements" and without making your heart come out from excitement.
Hope it served, your answer to question of mine was really helpful.

Well, apprently, streaching your body is good. Isn't it? Also it's a very relaxing way to sit comfortably and make the relax moves slowly. No one has ever explained to me what Yoga can really be. But I believe the whole idea is to relax your body and to get more concentration. While your body is relaxed, your mind becomes stronger by concentrating at it's best. That's the best part of Yoga. I hope it solves your mistery.

China has a variety of of investors attempting to take great thing concerning the ample low salary demanding artwork pool and the wide shopper marketplace. I agree that a similar circumstances exist in India that exist in China, and there is not any reason that India ought to not be experiencing a similar element of monetary develop. Transportation infrastructure has similarities, shipping and receiving of uncooked components and produced products does not be a issue. I also trust the answer above bringing up corruption and education as factors. Corruption can critically develop the fee of doing organisation. India does have a competent popularity for being technologies and organisation savvy. the secret's determining the thanks to make those strengths artwork on your choose.

Your using a mind and body connection. Each pose moves you in a position in which you are releasing a certian tension or pressure point. The breathe helps you get deeper into a pose and also helps you stay focused.
It is a nice very low impact way to get in shape. I have lost after baby weight and yoga each time has toned me perfectly. I do admit it feels so good that I don't feel I am doing anything workout wise...but my body shows that I am doing alot!!

I do not understand the science behind yoga, but I have tried it and confirmed the benefits of it.
Your question reminds me of an incident. In one of the yoga workshops I attended, a student asked the teacher the "why" behind a certain pose. The teacher responded, "Don't ask. Try." When the student came out of the pose, there was no more question.

Modern yoga practice often includes traditional elements inherited from eastern religion, such as moral and ethical principles, postures designed to keep the body fit, spiritual philosophy, instruction by a guru, chanting of mantras (sacred syllables),pranayama (breathing exercises), and stilling the mind through meditation. These elements are sometimes adapted to meet the needs of non-Hindu practitioners, who may be attracted to yoga by its utility as a relaxation technique or as a way to keep fit.
Proponents of yoga see daily practice as beneficial in itself, leading to improved health, emotional well-being, mental clarity, and joy in living. Yoga advocates progress toward the experience of samadhi, an advanced state of meditation where there is absorption in inner ecstasy.

Looking does not tell the story. Only doing it will tell the story. It changes your body's responses. You learn how your body is constructed. It opens joints, connective tissue. You must do it not just watch it. You learn breathing. It's what happens inside you that is important. It's not about doing certain postures. It's about being in the moment and feeling what's in your body. Getting connected with your body changes everything, including your brain waves. Yoga really works.

It looks so simple, but to do it perfectly it needs a good teacher.
Yog means to establish relation between mind, body and thoughts.
Yog exercises (Asanas) make our body pure by eliminating toxic matters and by balancing body energies which we do in acupuncture.
Keeping control on breath stabilizes the mind which is the prime motto. Mind has enormous power. If we make it still and stable our health remains good, otherwise we fall prey to many diseases.
Thus Yog leads us to health and wealth too due to right thinling.
