You can use a metallized coating applied by a twin wire arc machine or plasma. See below.

There is a great new Rustoleum product made for cast and wrought iron. I would suggest using the primer first because it binds the rust and keeps it from spreading. The paint comes in a variety of colors, including bronze.

I have used it on cast and wrought iron statues, urns, planters, window boxes, furniture, architectural salvage, all over my yard and inside my home. It is really the best product to combat pitting and rusting. (WAY better than the Hammerite products, which I have had a lot of problems with.)

You should go to homedepot, and get the spray paint kind. Its easyer and more officent. Do 3-4 coats and do a brisk up and down movement when you use it.

Sand it down w/ an steel bristle brush, then spray w/ bronze colored spray paint. I like Krylon myself.
