From what I have noticed the statement that water helps people lose weight is credible because it is supported by the biochemical processes of metabolism that occurs in the body. Water is essential for metabolism, so naturally, more fat would be burned when the amount of water for metabolism to occur is greater. Water is necessary for the metabolism of fat, and dehydration therefore impedes fat loss. Furthermore, drinking more water can avert hunger pangs and so help a diet. However, some answerers are recommending that people trying to lose weight should drink much more water than they need, which could lead to other problems and won't actually work as an alternative to exercise.

I think we think that because it's too easy! Losing weight is supposed to be a lot of work and basically expensive so just drinking a lot of water when there are literally hundreds of lose weight drinks, bars, and pills on the market is just very hard to believe.

Obviously, people do not listen to weight loss facts or advice in this country (the US), or we wouldn't have such an obese population. I'm not in great shape, but I do drink my water every day and I agree with you, it makes so much sense from a metabolic angle. Also, it simply makes you feel "full" and that keeps you from eating so much! People generally like to drink soft drinks and things that taste sweet to them, so trying to convince them to drink more water is like trying to convince them not to eat at McDonald's, which is proven to be horrible for you.

because some people retain water temporarily. so when they start drinking water, they'll actually gain a little weight, and won't have the patience to let their body metabolize it all. so they think it doesn't work.
