I was told by my Dr. that it IS o.k. to eat tuna, but you should not eat more than two small cans per week.

The National Resources Defense Council site (listed below) shows how much tuna of various kinds are "safe" - but a recent article (which I cannot find) said that pregnant women and young children should not eat any tuna because of the presence of Mercury.

Yes, you can eat it, but not too often. The tuna fish is an animal that lives in the deepest waters, and so they might have big concentrations of Plumb and Mercury... which are not very healthy for us.

If you eat it canned, try to choose the ones conserved in water or better in olive oil, but not in regular vegetable oil.

The only thing that might stop me from eating tuna is the fact that the Tuna fishers kill a lot of dolphins in their nets, while trying to capture tuna... they are starting to create a big environmental problem.

First of all, I must say what kind or what brand of canned tuna. I believe more or less, there is some mercury contents.

Avoid Fish with High levels of Mercury : Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish

At the moment, I have not known of any thorough study on if eating canned tuna can affect you in short term. Long term maybe yes. there may be some health affects although they may not be proven.

I was told that when we eat meals with mercury contents, they stuck at somewhere in our bodies..for example : at the joints of our bones etc. And one of my colleagues suggested that eating seaweed can reduce mercury intake in our body cos' it can somehow cleanse away mercury in our body. Not sure if it's really true or not.

Its safe to eat but in limited quantities. Two or three cans max a week. If your trying to get pregnant you probably want to limit your consumption. Mercury has been linked to autism.

Ya but the bigger yellow fin tuna isn't as good. The bigger the fish, the bigger the mercury count.

Albacore is much higher in mercury then chunk light. Even chunk light should be eaten sparingly. With the oceans the way they are today, it's best to avoid it all together.

Yes, but not more than twice a week, and buy the tuna packed in water, not oil.

I would not eat it at all if you are pregnant.

there is a connection between mercury and autism in children.
