The only chance of doing this would be if the ticket had been purchased as a "transferrable, unrestricted" fare, which is pretty rare. You can get this kind of ticket if you call the airline directly and ask them at the time of purchase; they cost on average 2-4 times the regular fare, sometimes more. If you bought just a normal ticket, it's not transferrable, which means only your friend can use it. But even with a restricted fare, your friend can switch the reservation to another date and destination; there will be a penalty fee of usually $100 for this, but your friend could use the ticket for a flight he/she could actually take and you buy your own ticket.

No. Airline tickets are never transferable, and rarely even date changeable without penalties.

The chances of that happening are slim, depending on the situation, but, if she has signed over the ticket to you, it should be okay. It all depends on the people in the airport. You should explain the situation and have him/her present. Good luck.

Nope, they will not do that.
Your friend can request a refund and depending on the type of ticket she purchased she will either get it entirely refunded, partially refund or no refund at all.

They are not transferrable. Something about security measures now in place.
