When a child is born he/she cannot reason. A human child is the most helpless animal on earth at birth. A father and mother must raise and nurture the child into a rational functioning adult. They do this by instilling the values and life lessons they have learned through out their lives. In these lessons is the religion they have believed in their whole lives. It has never betrayed them and has helped them through difficult times in their lives so they bring their child which is part of the family unit in on their life lesson. A child believes what a parent instills in them for the most part. If the parent has some weird belief system the child will think that belief system is normal. We see it everyday. It isn't until college where people start to question and find themselves and can decide what they believe in, but for the most part they stick with the tried and true religion of Christianity.

No one is born a Christian because becoming a christian is a choice. Parents raise their kids in what they believe. If they were raised to find out for themselves then they will more than likley teach their kids the same thing but if they did find a religion "suitaable for them" then they will try to pull a kid that way some mor than others. You can see by your answers how many people hate religion and expecially christianity. Me being a Christian, it doesnt bother me cause they were either brought up this way or somthing bad happened to them or a family member and blames God for it. So they may, if they dont ignore the calling of God, teach their kids their is no God.

Everyone brings up their children to believe as they do. Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Taoists, Buddhists, even atheists. That is how religions keep going, after all if no one raised their child to follow their beliefs those beliefs would die when that generation died.
The truth is even those in a Christian family can turn away from their faith. Also, just because you are born into a Christian family, does not automatically make you a Christian. You will have to make the choice for yourself during your lifetime.

Many people, even born Christians, change their religions.

And, no matter how much brainwashing takes place at home, the schools brainwash kids with the great gods Science and Logic until some become atheists. It's interesting because they end up understanding neither Science nor Logic, but are guided by their faith in both.

I was raised in one religion (Christian) and converted to a different Christian religion in my twenties.
Because I (and my hubby) feel so strongly about our faith, we wish to raise our children in what we feel is right for us-and them.

BUT-our children have the right to choose for themselves. In our religion, they are not baptized until age 8 (or after). They are interviewed by the congregational leader and asked if that is what they want to do. NO ONE is forced into baptism or anything else.
That would be taking away from free agency.

I also think this question goes both ways.
There are millions who follow Buddhism, Islam, and other faiths.
You can't possibly say they are all allowed by their parents or others to follow any faith they wish. I would hope they are----but this is not a 'Christian' issue or question alone.

We all do what we feel is best as parents.
:)

First of all, you are not 'born' any religion. We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. Thats why Jesus died. But to live for Jesus is a choice. Secondly, its because we follow the Bible. Raise your children in the things of God, and they will not depart. That is my hope as a parent, is that my children wont have to experience the hurt, and the pain and the torment that I went through with out Jesus Christ in my life.

Its called being a parent. You wouldn't let your children run naked, dirty, and hungry in the middle of the streets, would you? Then why should we let them do that very thing spiritually? You arent getting it are you? Thats because the Bible calls people like you blind to God's understanding. You have no revelation of the things of God because you do not seek Him first. Lean not on your own understanding. God said He will give you over to a reprobate mind if that is what you want, and that IS what you have chosen.

How dare you even compare? Did you know that most Muslims will disown their children if they convert to Christianity? They will even go so far as to murder their children. What kind of love is that? Is that how we show our children love? Want proof? Just talk to one of the many missionaries my church has sent overseas to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Now look at america's morals today. They have fallen so much in the last couple of decades. Why? Because the lack of 2 parents in the home, which leads to the lack of discipline and morals. Let that simmer for a second.

My God is alive and I will raise my children in the things of God because despite what the world, media or even you say, my God Jesus Christ will show my children a love that is unfailing and will save my childrens souls one day. And unless you repent, thats more then I can say for you.

I was raised Christian, well, Catholic anyway, and in the school library I found books that showed me other ways of thinking, other viewpoints, archeology, philosophy, science....I learned that Christianity was not my only option. I don't know why people do not even question the faiths they are raised in, they just accept whatever they are given. Anyone can choose to change their religion at any point in their life, at least in America they can. Free will and freedom of religion.....a combination feared by many and used by few.

You will find that most parents bring up their children in the same religion. Muslims don't just say, "Okay, you're on your own...!" It's a cultural thing. Children aren't old enough to make those kinds of decisions.

When you ARE old enough to consider spiritual issues, the responsibility is YOURS to question your beliefs. But more often than not (and again, this is true of all religions) children who grow up with a particular set of values will maintain those values.

Children tend to follow waht the parents believe in, up to a certain age, so naturally if they follow Christain tenancy, they expect the children to do so. Most children are thought of as not mature enough to make their own decisions about such things until they reach near adulthood. And many parents would almost be shocked by a child wanting to go outside their religion until he can explain why he wants to do so. Religion has long been a contention of one thing that keeps families together, and many people see division in religion as one that separates them.

God has no grandchildren. We are all God's CHILDREN. In other words, you can only be a Christian by choice, nobody can force anybody to be one, and even if you could they still wouldn't really be one, because it has to be a free will choice. Most everybody, whether raised Christian or not, will have to decide one day what they believe, and there is nothing wrong with teaching your children about faith and God. And hopefully some moral values.
Peace.
