I can't explain it, you can't explain it. You can preach god or the big bang, but no one knows for sure. Knowing one way or another about how it was created doesn't make any difference in your daily life so don't think about it, live your life and enjoy yourself.

Beacause people have this strong NEED to explain everything & "know" everything. Then they claim the only accurate interpretation. You are absolutley right...we are human & can never explain the universe, God, etc.

Because it's more tangible than a supreme being who is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent - which, in concept, is a bit outrageous and an all too "convenient" method of explaining life, the universe and everything. It's easier to say "God made it" than it is to actually PROVE it - which has ALWAYS been the line in the sand for theists and atheists alike. Proof is NOT about pointing to a book and saying, "I know because THAT told me so!". It's about moving beyond a book, a creation of man, and filtering out the dogma and using our BRAINS, NOT BLIND FAITH, to explain the universe around us.

Understanding the meaning of the universe puts the burden of proof squarely on the shoulders of mankind rather than a burning bush.

Science is about dealing in REALITY, not myth or legend.

Finally, the last statement in your question says that knowing about it (one way or another) doesn't make a difference in [my] daily life. While it may be true that such knowledge doesn't affect my commute, or the bills I have to pay, it does however provide hope for the generations to come. To know your place in the universe is like having a GPS while on a hike, in the middle of a country in which you've never seen. It would give us a static, firm answer which has been proved through fact, logic, and reason rather than conjecture and superstition. Later generations could explore the universe for a safe home away from a dying Earth.

You NEED to know because it has massive implications in how you live your life. If the universe somehow evolved out of nothing, then there is no meaning in life -- therefore, do just what you said "live your life and enjoy yourself" because everything is meaningless anyway. BUT, if God created the universe, then as creator, He is also King and Judge -- and therefore, you stand under His judgment and authority and will be judged one day according to your actions in keeping with God's rule over us. Therefore, you need to seek God and submit to his authority. And these two ways of living have two different destinations for eternity (heaven or hell). Which way will you choose? It depends on what you believe about creation.

I certainly agree. Whether you believe it was God, or the Big Bang, or God via the Big Bang, it doesn't really matter how everything was created. It exists is the point. We're here to make what we can of what we have... regardless of your beliefs.

Well, just as we need to know many other things, we need to know this one to. Curiousity is ingrained in the nature of humans. Just take your own example: - why do YOU need to know why the OTHERS need to know how the universe was created.. get the point? Moreover, there is a scientific side to this question too... if we learn our universe's very origins, then it may help us to invent new things tht are going to be very helpful to us in the long run... and please dont pretend tht u have nothing to do with the so-called helpful things... see - even u use Yahoo answers... u ought to be grateful to it....

Was that a question, or a rant. The reason we want to know lies at searching for truth, one of our qualities as humans. maybe to you it wouldnt matter a whole lot either way but think of the millions of people that possibly would be affected if we found out for sure it was one or the other.

Just something to argue about and waste your time. If you have nothing else to say or talk it is good to always bring up this topic.
