I have always heard that if you include a Saturday stay, airlines tickets are cheaper.

Yes, many airfares are cheaper with a Saturday stay over, but this rule has started to change. This rule applied mostly to leisure travelers, who would stay over the weekends, where most business travels are eager to get home, which allows the airlines to make more money.
If you want cheaper fares and have a flexible schedule trying flying to your destination on a Saturday and returning on a Monday or Tuesday.
Further, it is also cheaper to fly on Monday - Thursday, the non peak days.

for international journey, yes, it is cheaper with a saturday stay. It's just basically airlines' weird rules to throw in "minimum saturday stay" as a restriction for lowest fare.
however, domestically and within europe, seems like everyone is doing the one-way fare strategy, no longer requires saturday stay. they just basically list all the flights between two points that are available, and the fare levels are different.

Yes, if you stay over a Saturday it is cheaper... I am not sure of the reasoning on this, but time and time again it is cheaper to stay over a Saturday.

Usually they are cheaper with a Saturday night stay. Try priceline.com or travelocity and compare.
