How do you feel about your former religion? Were your experiences good or bad? Did it shape your current belief system in any way? Would you have come out if you liked your childhood religion better?

I thought it would go without saying but apparently not. If you were raised atheist the second part of my question does not apply to you so it would be a little silly for you to try and answer it. Just say I was raised atheist - that about sums it up. For those that deconverted, I was interested in your experiences.

Judaism. It's just a religion that is old and needs to be converted. I've had good experiences, but it's not for me. It has not shaped my current belief system in any manner. I practice some of the traditions, but do not go to temple or read the old testatment (Torah).
I think my childhood would have been worse if I read the Torah. I grew up in a WASPy neighborhood and would have been persecuted.

I was raised Catholic as I got older I felt it was a bunch of lies. I had a friend molested by the priest and he was just sent to a different Parrish. That was it! They told me Catholicism was right and everyone else was going to hell.
I tried Assembly of God churches and Jehovah's Witnesses ( I dated girls that were of that faith in my teens.)
I looked into Islam and the book of Mormon.
I felt I was being deceived. I'm now more Agnostic than atheist. I am happy with my choice. I judge people on how they interact with me and others. Yes, I do judge them. It's hard to really know what motivates people on Yahoo answers at times.Your question seems sincere and not demeaning thus I figured it deserved an honest answer.

I became an atheist as an adult and my childhood had nothing to do with it.
How I feel about religion is totally irrelevant. A person must find his own religion according to his own needs, not the needs (or faith) of others.
Good luck on your quest. May you find what you search for.

I became an Atheist in high school. I thought of the good and bad
in the world and thought no god could let all this war, famine, and all exist while he/she/it has the power to blink it out of existence.
I was raised episcopalian.

Well I'm agnostic...but I stopped believing in that guy above when good people around me started dying in the most tragic ways. My boyfriend, my friends and my family members. And well, christians are a bunch of hypocrites. Not all, but most.

How do you know that atheists were ever a part of any religion?
That is a rather presumptuous question.

I never had any religion. My children don't either. They are free to make their choice, just like I was free to make mine.

Excuse me sweetie.....but people are NOT born religious!
Religion is thrust upon them by people such as yourself.
