Microsoft Windows is a family of operating systems by Microsoft for use on personal computers, although versions of Windows designed for servers, embedded devices, and other platforms also exist. Microsoft first introduced an operating environment named Windows in November 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing trend of graphical user interfaces popularized by the Apple Macintosh. Microsoft Windows eventually came to dominate the world personal computer market with market analysts like IDC estimating that Windows has around 90% of the client operating system market.

Microsoft Windows is a software program that you load on your computer and that then manages all the other programs on your computer, such as Microsoft Office applications. It provides a secure, reliable environment for running programs on desktop PCs, mobile phones and Tablet PCs, with a consistent, familiar display that makes it easy to use whatever the device.
Windows XP is the most up-to-date version of Windows and offers rich digital media features that mean you can play music, watch video and work with digital photos, all on your PC. It’s available in several editions designed to meet your needs whether you're at home, in the office, at school or on the move.
