I don't recall anything being said in the Bible about what kind of music we are allowed to listen too, so don't sweat it, I don't think God is going to send you to Hell for listening to "the wrong kind of music." God intented us to enjoy life, as we worship him, so as long as you love and worship God, ENJOY LIFE.

If you can find some place in the Bible that says you can't listen to certain types of music, then that's your answer.
Of course... you can listen to whatever kind of music you want to listen to.
The only thing is... what is the message that's being put out by the music. If it's ulifting or neutral then it's probably okay.
However, a lot of music out there has lyrics that directly conflict with Christianity and therefore, I don't think it should be listened to.
It's not about the music style, it's about the message in the music.
Listen away!

If you consider yourself a Christian that follows the Bible, you'll make your decision based upon what the song is about and perhaps who sings it.
Personally I don't listen or not listen to a song because it's rap, or Metal, but if the rap song is about immoral sex or the Metal song is about killing I don't listen to it. The same would go for any type of music. Not just genres that people normally categorize as "good" or "bad".

There is no such thing as "Christian" music; there are only Christian lyrics. It is the words that make a song sacred, not the tune.
I'm Christian and I listen to some secular music as long as their lyrics are good.
I don't listen to most rap, hip hop etc because of their lyrics and I like to praise and worship God all the time.

I would say listen to what you like, but what goes in generally is what goes out. A lot of the rap/hip hop/rock is filled with cursing, alot of the music treats denegrating women as fine, drugs are ok, etc. I can't equate that with a christian lifestyle.

Christians should listen to music that up lifts Jesus name. When God saved me, He put a new song in my heart. I have no desire for rock music, or rap music. I love the old Christian songs like amazing Grace. When a persons heart is right with the Lord, they have a desire to please Him. You can"t live for Jesus, and the devil both. You either love one and hate the other. If you are truly saved, you will not go to hell for listening for that kind of music, but it is not pleasing to God.

Of course it is ok, don't let anyone tell you that it's not!! I am a devout Christian and i listen to all kinds of music. Being a man or woman of faith doesn't mean that you shut out the secular world and ignore it. It is foolish to think that exposure to foul language and sexual inuendo are going to in someway destroy your belief in God and your willingness to love your fellow man... and if it does then there wasn't such a strong foundation in the first place, was there?

Music is made up of rhythms. Tones, from which we build melodies and harmonies, are produced by rhythmical vibrations (a certain number of vibrations per second produces a given note). In fact, the first three elements of music-melody, harmony, and tone color-are the result of the arrangement and "quality" of these rhythmical vibrations. What we usually refer to as "rhythm" includes the grouping of tones into "measures" of music, as well as the tempo at which these groupings are played or sung.
An interesting fact that may give us clearer insight as to why music has such power over the human frame is that we are also essentially rhythmical creatures. "There is rhythm in respiration, heartbeat, speech, gait, etc. The cerebral hemispheres are in a perpetual state of rhythmical swing day and night."
Because of the dangers inherent in this now-American legacy, it is important for Christians to guard themselves from its effects. We should learn to adjust our taste in music to that which is a melodic, purely "harmonic" style of music. In this style, the rhythmic groupings will always be very loyal to the naturally accented beats of the time signature (i.e., in 4/4 time, the first and third beats of the measure).

Do you feel like God would be angry with you for listening to hip hop and R&B? My God wouldn't I love God and I think what I do for entrertainment has no affect on my faith or love for him. Sure they use curse words but that has nothing to do with my faith. I just don't let their lyrics sway my heart away from the Lord

Anything that doesn't go against His Commandments. Ex: rap songs that talk about killing, greed, and lust as a good thing).
A good test for a song is this - Could you listen to it if Jesus was right next to you (which He always is anyway)?
