The zoo in Lansing is really nice and they have a place there where you can rent canoes. If you canoe long enough (about an hr) you will get to downtown Lansing. I went to college there and we use to do this every spring. There is a big fountain downtown and we use to try and turn the canoe so the ppl on the other side got wet (lol sweet youth) of course we all ended up soaked!

Definitely go to South Haven or St. Joe to go to Lake Michigan. There is a town called Holland which is kind of like "Holland" the country, there's windmills and such. Right outside of Detroit there is an old style village, I forgot the name of it. I don't know how far up north you're willing to go but in Muskegon it's summer celebration right now and there is a fair and lots of concerts going on. (summercelebration.com for line up). There's lots of stuff to do in Michigan!!
