I have been dying my hair red for about 10 years. A friend of mine who also (used to) dye her hair red, has found out she has high copper levels in her blood and the doctor said it is due to her hair dye.
Has anyone else had this experience?

That is ridiculous, I hope the doctor was joking. For one thing, hair dye doesn't seep into the skin! For another, copper won't dye hair red, in fact, copper can be used to produce a BLUE dye!

I'm a hair stylist and have never heard of such a thing and have lots of ladies who have dyed their hair red for 20 to 30 years with no problems! Did the doctor she goes to tell her if the copper in her blood will really hurt her because #1 I 've never heard of real copper being added to artificial hair dyes! Does blond color dyes cause women to be stupid? Or do they have high levels of Lemon juice in their blood? Humm... I wonder, personally I would check on your friends doctor credentials!!

Copper is not extensively dangerous, if she is worried, she can go to a health food store, and get a detox kit for metals in the body. Which is good any way. But the copper isnt real dangerous. But hair color metals vary from product to product. And if you are worried about side effects, then go with a Henna product. BUT>>>>>You can never change your color with henna as it is a vegetable stain, only way to get it completely out of your hair is to cut it off. You cant bleach or have another colour to cover it. It will just get darker and darker. Ive been a stylist for years.

If you get it on your skin or your scalp, it could be bad for you, but it does not go from your hair to your bloodstream. It is perfectly safe in your hair. To protect your skin, put baby oil on your neck arms, shoulders and around your forehead and ears. When dye gets in your skin, wipe it off immediately. Shampoo on a damp paper towel works great. Maybe copper is not comming from your hair product, but something else. Here is a GREAT tip for removing toxins and unwanted metals from your body. TAKE an EPSOLM SALT BATH. Soak in the tub until the water gets dirty. To help it along, lufa or massage your skin. Then relax and let the salt water do it's thing. 10 to 15 minutes is fine or when your fingers and toes start to look like raisins. Drink water before and after your bath though cuz salt water can make you dehydrated.

Well, listen to the doc. Is copper dangerous? We do need some, and I thought it was pretty good for us.
