It works simply b/c you're replacing meals with normal caloric levels with meals that have less than 150 calories - so you're reducing your calorie intake. This works regardless of what food is used - if you ate 150 calories worth of string cheese, fruit, yogurt, what have you...reduced calories are reduced calories.
It takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose one pound - and if you don't change exercise, but reduce your caloric intake (which this "diet" does) then yes, you'll lose weight. But it might not be sustainable in the long run b/c you'll probably 1) be hungry in between meals 2) get bored FAST. Your best bet is to reduce calories, increase exercise and eat a variety of foods. Eating too little (one bowl of cereal for bfast and lunch) could cause your metabolism to slow down. Five smaller, lean meals through out the day works best for long run results.
The "Special K diet" is just a marketing gimmick - there is nothing particularly special about their cereal. They're simply betting on the fact that people won't realize this and buy the cereal as if it holds some magical weight loss power. If anything, you're better off eating a serving of high fiber cereal with berries and skim milk - it's much more substantial, it will fill you up, keep you satisfied and is better for your digestive system than the nothingness that is Special K.

Yeah, if your normal dinner routine is a small amount of protein, steamed veggies/salad and some fruit. But you're screwed if your normal dinner routine is Pizza, fries, cheesecake, etc..etc...
Losing weight is simple math.........take in fewer calories than you burn. There is so much information out there about the right kinds of foods to eat and the fact that something as simple as walking is a great form of exercise. So don't starve yourself. Eat healthy and EAT. You're not going to get fat by sticking with veggies, the right kind of protein, fruits and some dairy. Cut out the sugar, refined carbs, bread, etc....and you'll do fine.

I tried it...it works but not 2 sizes in 2 weeks. Most people it takes at least a month before you notice a difference. Also you need to exercise at least 3 times a week.

Well... I sort of tried it... I lost weight but later on i eventually gained it all back. BTW, when you do the special k diet.. you don't get enough nutrition in your body when you do it for at least 2 weeks. So it really only works if you do it for the rest of your life.

It works but as soon as you start eating donuts and pizza for breakfast and lunch you will go back up those two pant sizes plus more.

There's no way I could. For breakfast, you have one serving of cereal (which is a cup) with skim milk. The same for lunch. And a sensible dinner. I'd freakin' starve!!!

its really nothing special if you eat any cereal that doesnt have any sugar and replace ur two dinners with a cereal meal you can also lose two pant sizes in two weeks its nothing special

i tried for a couple of days but its very hard i was starving.... you can only have a tiny serving of cereal.......
all it is, is the idea of counting calories so just have three low cal meals a day that a more substantial.... like fish and salads and baked potatoes.... the whole thing is a bit of a sham
